I hit 25 subs and i was stoked! my next has to be 50, 100 seems so far away!

If you get 20 subs and 500 views per year you should think about doing something else with your videos because it's not working.

I would say it's low even for a first year. If your videos get no traction in a year you're probably doing something wrong.

I see it as more of a learning stage, in the first year and that is a very realistic target

Learning what exactly? Editing and other stuff can be learned without putting your stuff up on youtube. Just make videos for yourself until they look passable, then start sharing them with other people.

You learn loads in your first year, for example what works, what doesn't. How to gain subscribers.

But you should have a clear vision before you start a channel right? Also your video and sound quality should be at least ok from the beginning?
If your stuff does not work within 1st year you're probably on a wrong path. If you're doing videos just for yourself and few friends thats ok - keep doing it. If you want to get somewhere with you channel, try to set higher goals.

But you can set to high goals and get frustrated 20 subs and 500 views is a good realistic target, you can always up it if you hit it.
