Youtube subscribes....why are people so selective?

It's true, I don't subscribe to everyone under the sun or my feed will get cluttered.
Youtube actually has a subscription limit, but the cap is so high anyway.

For me it's like this:

1.) When I first went on YouTube I started subscribing to the big channels that YouTube promotes everywhere you go.
2.) That's already so many (good) channels that I have to limit who I'm subscribed to.
3.) If I find a newer, smaller channel now, it may look promising but will I sacrifice one of the big channels for it? They have people who have been honing their skills for years plus high video quality. So probably not.

It's kind of sad really.

So it's pretty pointless trying to promote your channel here unless you're a big channel in which case you wouldn't need this site for promotion purposes.

Firstly, not everyone is like me, some people may even detest big channels and are only looking for "something fresh" - you never know! If you don't promote anywhere, you lose any chance you had.

Secondly, I have found good channels on here, the ones that already have what big channels have because they're damn good at what they do and are really making an effort to put out good content.

How do you promote? I'm trying on here but not having any success.
Well, it's different for me as I do gaming, but the principles are the same...

My channel focuses on one game, so I'm very active on the official forums, and also on the games subbreddit - most of my views comes from my posts on Reddit. In other words, get involved in the community your videos relate to.

I also indirectly promote myself by commenting on similar videos to mine, and also being active in forums such as YTTalk. Just don't leave comments on other videos saying "hey, come check out my videos!"

Also, YTTalk is more about helping each other, not so much for promoting your videos :)

YTtalk is a forum for YouTube creators to discuss and ask questions about creating YouTube videos. That is the primary purpose of this site. As an added bonus, active members can promote a video in their sig and in the videos and channels section, but like I said in your other thread, other content creators aren't necessarily your target audience. Here you can/will learn how to make good videos and how to market them to your target audience, but that target audience is not necessarily here.

First of all I wouldn't worry so much about getting subscribers. Views are what pay, watch time is what gets you noticed as it helps get you higher into the search results. Yes, YouTube hands out nice shiny awards to those who hit 100,000 and 1,000,000 subs, but so what?

Second of all, I wouldn't get so discouraged in general. If you enjoy posting videos to YouTube, keep it up. If you find it a tedious chore, then just give up now.

A shoutout is when another channel gives your channel props, and provides a link to your channel. They can help a lot in the subscriber department!

Just to add - similar to shoutouts are collabs (collaboration with other channel with similar to your content). If the colab. channel turns out to be much bigger than yours you have both colab and shoutout in one - the best of two worlds! :)

Almost all of us are creators. This place is more for us to learn together rather than looking for customers.

Check the view-count of this topic. It hasn't even crossed 300 views. It would be better for you to go after the millions of YouTube viewers rather than the relatively small number of people here.
