Youtube subscribes....why are people so selective?

Idk why, but I feel like it's an obligation. When you subscribe you're stating "I like you and I'll be back to watch more!" I don't even keep up with the 5 channels I really follow haha.

I follow a bunch of people but if I stopped watching any of their videos I'd unsubscribe. People are selective because they all have different standards, keep at it though :)

Personally, it's the same reason I don't follow a lot of people on Twitter - I like to curate my subscriptions so I know every channel is going to post videos I definitely want to watch. I guess another way to think of it is as signing up for e-newsletters - technically you can sign up for as many as you want but no one wants thousands of emails they're not interested in reading flooding their inboxes.
It's definitely not a reason to give up though! Just inspiration to find your audience and keep making the best stuff you can so that they'll want to watch it :)

I'll admit I am selective as well. I've unsubscribed to more channels than I have subscribed in the last year. It's really because of boredom. I burn out on content if it is the same thing over and over again. I'm currently only subscribed to something like six channels. I wouldn't exactly know since only one of the channels I'm subscribed to uploads on a weekly basis. The other channels upload much less frequently. That isn't a plus however their content keeps me subbed since it is high quality entertainment.

It might have something to do with being a younger channel. Folks might see that a new YouTuber doesn't have that many subscribers and assume that their content is bad without giving a fair chance.

I've noticed that you've only been doing videos for 4 weeks - it takes a lot of time and effort to grow your channel. It's easy to get discouraged at the start, and that is where a lot of people quit. Stick with it, and don't forget to work hard on promotion - people won't find you by themselves!

I am subscribed to many people, but there is not enough time in the day to watch all their content. Everyone I subscribed to is because I like their content. So in a way I am indeed selective. Now it's pretty hard to get me to subscribe to you, because with editing, and watching my current subscribed channels... I rarely find new folk (unless there is a shoutout, then I check out the channel that is featured... which is why shout-outs are so important!)

I don't have time to watch too many channels and I try to avoid subbing to a channel if I won't watch their vids every now and then.

How do you promote? I'm trying on here but not having any success.[DOUBLEPOST=1410263453,1410263394][/DOUBLEPOST]

What's a shoutout?
