No, I would say it's not competition whatsoever. The idea of competition is to win something over your opponent. Apple and Android are competitors because they both sell phones and the majority of people will only buy one phone. That's competing for a sale. The Lakers and Cavs are obvious competitors because they both are vying for the NBA championship. That's competing for glory. As a YouTuber, you're not competing for subs or views. Your only setback in not getting enough views and subs is if your content is subpar and your promotion is lacking. No one is making videos to take subscribers from you regardless of how much better their content is. The fact of the matter is that people can subscribe and view multiple channels. That alone already makes it abundantly clear that it is not competition. There's just way too many people that have the ability to have multiple options. Your only competition is yourself.

Hey yall,

I was reading some forums and found people saying YouTube is a competition to see who has the most views and subs. Is this really the true nature of YouTube? I know shane Dawson thinks like this (love him) but I just find it sad. Thoughts?

I don't think it is, the reason I say this is because if two of the channels I subscribed to talk about the same thing, I'm still going to watch both to get each perspective. When there is competition, it'd be like WWE vs TNA, they'll never help each other, but some YouTubers do so I don't think it's competition in my opinion.

If you see it as a competition you are adding extra stress to something that shouldn't be stressful. Sure, a little competition is healthy, but before you know it you'll be complaining that you work so much harder than xyz yet have less subscribers and less views.

For me there is no competition on YouTube. I have had people comment on my videos that pit local YouTubers against me. I dismiss it, I don't do that competition crap. If they have more views and subscribers than I do so what. Vice versa the same way. The moment you think yourself superior is the moment you start acting arrogant. And no one likes an arrogant b*****d.

Well it could be if you want it to be that way but there are collaborations for a reason that's where the competing stops and the team work begins you work together to grow equally and may even come up with some better content than you could by yourself.

It's only a competition if you make it a competition or think of it as a competition.
Who cares if that person has a bigger audience, just care about your own audience lol

For me, YouTube is a way for me to get experience behind me as well as it providing me with a platform I can create on. As I want to go into the media industry for a career, YouTube has given me the unique ability to begin refining my skill sets before I step into the professional world of media.
I started YouTube back in 2012 and all the experience for video editing and video production I have gained because of YouTube has been sooooo helpful on my course.

Yes, naturally, YouTube will have a competitive feel to it from time to time but it is only a minor aspect of the site. It is an entertainment platform, much like the TV or Radio. The only difference being that YouTube an Online Streaming will be the next TV and Radio. It will be our generations TV and Radio.

I don't think YouTube is a competition at all. As said earlier though, it is healthy to have some competition. If you're friends with another YouTuber its cool to push each other to do better by setting goals with each other and seeing who can reach them quicker. Shows how much work you're putting in and how much you need to put in.
