YouTube Friendships?!

Yeah, I know the feeling. I think a lot of people just start YouTube channels to try get famous, so the main reason they try to make friends is to get more views on their videos. Me and my friends just make videos because it's fun. I would love to make some friends on YouTube who are also just doing it for fun.
 
I know the feeling too, I've had a couple of people comment on my videos and say "let's stay in touch" and I was aware at the time that it was most likely a cute way of saying "watch, comment, like, subscribe" but it was frustrating to find that that's what it was. I think next time somebody sends me a comment like that I'll send them a private message to see if they're still interested when there's nothing to be gained from engaging in conversation.
As for me I haven't found anyone yet that has really made me want to put myself out there and say "let's be friends". I've sent friendly comments to a few people but if I were to ever send a message to somebody saying "I love your channel, want to be friends?" I want to mean it.

In all seriousness, yes, Youtube isn't the most friendly place. It's not a typical social network because people actually make money off of it and all think they can get big and feed off of others to do so. I myself don't hate the idea of having some kind of success, I just know that it can't be through leeching and sub4sub type behavior.
 
Maybe because I'm older now, but I remember it used to be really easy to make friends online. Nowadays it seems a lot harder.
 
Yeah, people tend to just see it as a way to get more views/subscribers instead of making real friends D:
 
I like to consider everyone on this forum a friend. Yes, we are both helping each other, but we are also sharing a similar interest which leads to some pretty awesome conversations in these threads :) As for people just wanting to be friends to get a subscriber, I notice this, but I'll never be unfriendly to them for it.

I have never had anyone I could call a "friend" on youtube. I guess you can only make one by making videos together, which would never happen in my niche.
