Yahoo now officially is blocking AdBlock, Google are you in?

Honestly, yahoo mail is one of the worst mail services among the main ones, as someone who actually has an account, it's slow as hell, ads only make it run slower. I would use gmail, but I need a "professional" email, and all variations of my name, without numbers, have been used already.

As for blocking AdBlock, I wonder how it will really affect youtube. Let's say they successfully implement it, and now more people will watch our ads, so we start to earn more money. Once people catch on that it's easier to earn money on youtube, there will be a surge in content creators and our views will drop, it will become harder to stand out, etc. Would anything be any different then?

Plus, if people start leaving youtube due to ads it will have a negative impact on us as well. A viewer with AdBlock is better than no viewer at all. They add traffic/interaction, they might share the videos, and so on. A surge in content creation coupled with a drop in viewers doesn't sound good at all to me.

Of course, I'm just speculating here, it's hard to predict how the community will react to this.

I recommend get your own .com domain and wham, professional e-mail in any flavor you'd like! That's what I did, though I have Yahoo, Gmail and iCloud I still prefer my own , you can also have Google manage your domain's e-mail and continue using the Gmail interface; I do prefer using Outlook or Thunderbird with my own .com. I don't think the ads are so horrible on either web based mail client however, unless you have a machine that easily locks up on web resource usage. It's barely ever that cluttering, the ads kind of ad a "live tile" flavor to the e-mail, but hey what do I know, I still use my own .com e-mail for years now.

That's the beauty of capitalism :D keep in mind its quality over quantity, least everyone has a fair shot and a chance at earning for being a creator. Like YouTube isn't already over-saturated with content over and over already.. I know guys who watch videos and re-make them in their own models, same title, same tags; simply because they are unable to be creative anymore. For the billion viewers out there, there is always something to watch; regardless of the genre there will always be a viewer, for sure. So no worries, it's an infinite pool of viewers, and it would only help the ad market by allowing more ads to be distributed over a larger pool of videos; more advertisers, higher odds of ads shown on your content, and mine, and everyone's.

Let's get real, no one's leaving YouTube. The type of content and the sheer brand of YT, ease of access and the billion ways its integrated through web, mobile, social and general media; for someone not to be a part of it is almost as if they stopped using Google all together when in reality (seriously) it's almost impossible. Somehow it had worked itself into one of those brands that will just never, ever go away.

Of course, I'm just speculating here, it's hard to predict how the community will react to this.

I for one can't wait to see the cheers, cries and the impact it will have on my channels and vise versa; how my it will make me create even more content and interact with my audience. The web is constantly changing, evolving; to ensure the survival of marketing so that it won't die out like VCR players, Walkmans, Discmans, Stretch Armstrongs, etc. measures which impact millions must be taken; for once we're actually (as creators) on the winning side of the court, that is if this all goes through and they successfully implement, and execute, a way to secure ad views on all platforms.

I have said it before and I will say it again but I doubt that AdBlock (currently) has much impact on YouTube's revenue. If it really cut down on available ad slots that much then advertisers would need to bid much more for a single slot. This would then first result in higher revenue up to a break even point.
What it may indeed do is to negatively impact the experience of viewers who don't use AdBlock because these will see more ads (and go over to using AdBlock then).
Current revenue drops are not caused by AdBlock but by a lack of advertisers in my eyes.

True, unless there were a large surplus of content/ad space compared to ads to begin with. Then, those using ad blockers could still theoretically have an impact on Youtube's bottom line without affecting ad prices. The other thing is that even if ad blocker usage hasn't gone up much the past few years, the number of videos being uploaded has gone up considerably and the cost of advertising has gone down. Maybe some of the heavy hitting Youtubers are chirping about lower revenues and Youtube's answer is to finally go after the ad blockers to make up the difference. Who knows, though. It's purely guesswork.

I think this would be a good thing. It is really not that hard to make it so people can't use adblock on a website. Yes people will always try and find a way around it, but there is always people to hire to keep up with the loop holes people find. Especially for websites that rely on the ads to make money to keep going like youtube it is important to get this issue fixed. People using adblock on youtube has gone from 15% in 2008 to 40% currently, and that is a dramatic loss of income for youtube.

I never cared about people using add-blocker. But, I know I would care if I made my living on YouTube. Any dollar earned is an extra one for your family at that point. At the point I am at now it just eases the financial burden on the expensive hobby that is YouTube. Hahaha!

My guess is that they will find a workaround, in case Google will disable Adblock, so in the end it doesn't matter.

I personally don't monetize and I won't until I can actually make significant bank, but I believe YouTube should do implement an anti-ad blocker system or at least a message which states the harms of using Adblock. I want to see some of my friends who live off of YouTube have more financial security.
