Why do some people hide subscriber count?

I've never subscribed to someone who hides their subscriber count. the idea sounds good. like "hey! now people won't judge my content for my subscriber count!". but they seem suspicious to me. I'm sure they are lovely people, but it seems shady. I use tumblr a lot and you can't see a follower count there and I always wonder if I'm following someone with 2 followers.

Yeah I mean hiding your subscriber account is basically like killing someone I gotchu
 
I think most people do it because they dont have very many subscribers and they feel that if people see how many subs they have it will affect if people will want to watch they videos.
 
What are your guys' thoughts on hiding your sub count? When I see a channel that has it hidden, I automatically dislike it a bit, and am less likely to subscribe. I don't like when people hide it. Something about it just seems bad. Is hiding it a good or bad thing to do? Would it affect subscribers?

I think most people hide sub counts for the reasons you all have articulated, but I like to think that perhaps there are some people out there who just take joy in creation, want to have content stand for itself, and not get into the whole nitty gritty of keeping track of numbers.

It's kind of interesting, when you think about so many of the discussions we have here about supporting small channels, and yet, it seems we're kind of judgemental about people who hide their sub counts. Why wouldn't you subscribe to a channel if you like the content, no matter the subscriber number?
 
When your small sometimes you can get intimidated by those with bigger subscriber counts. I know I was at first and didn't want people to see how small I was.
