When first starting a channel what do you feel is more important: subs or views?

i get annoyed looking at how subs can go up a little bit then the next day someone unsubscribes lol I'm only at 7 right now but was over ten last week. Part of me wonders if it's better to just care more about my view count and things like retention rate. What do you think?

View count and retention rate is more important. Most definitely retention rate! You can have a small sub count but a massive amount of views. lolol I love your video why I hate the zoo. you have a new subscriber!

At least for me, views are more important at the moment, as when you first start out you'll get subscribers that really just subscribe in hopes that you'll sub to them back, then unsubscribe when they realize you wont.

Views and subscribers going hand to hand is what is good or important imo... but the views on your videos should exceed the subscribers you have, then you know that your video is being advertised and more and more people are watching it :D

It's so easy to believe that subscribers are the important number - especially when you take into consideration that YouTubers are awarded play buttons based on their follower count, but never on their views, that I've seen.
However, the views are what prove how many people are watching your content and are what will determine whether or not YouTube could be a viable career option for you. So, I'd say they're definitely the most important here!

I find views more important! i got 278 subs and get about 40-60 views typically??
(some accounts are dead and some are people that decided to sub to me on all their accounts for some reason, uh).

I think views are a better view of how well your channel is doing to be honest.
Getting a subscriber can sometimes mean nothing (some people subscribe with no intention of watching your videos..)

you have ZERO actual control over views and subs. you should only concentrate on content and good thumbnails/SEO etc. do that and the views and subs will come. people on here worry FARRRRRR too much about views and subs. especially when just starting out

My honest answer. neither are important. Your content is what matters. If you love what you do and are passionate about it.. the views and subs will come on their own. but nobody will sit through your videos if you cant sit through them .. focus entirely on the things your making and your content.. if you are happy with it and keen to share it.. you will see the growth in both views and subs :) of this im sure friend
