Whats the best audio visual recording setup I can get under $500?

So Im looking to get setup with a camera and mic and thought this would be a good place to start.

Firstly I'm not sure if I need a separate mic and audio recorder or if I just get a camera with a decent mic?

Secondly what are my options product wise?

I'll be putting it all together on an older Toshiba laptop, win 8 with enough ram and using something like shotcut to put it all together.

I record book reading essentially. Sounds weird but its key to know because I'm mounting and focusing the camera only like 1-2 feet away.
