What to upgrade for better performance?

So I guess the graphics card has the least affect when it comes to video editing.

Right?
yer kinda.. I checked up on the one you said you currently have and really the difference between the 2 isn't much when it comes to rendering and video editing :)
it matters if the graphics card is powerful enough to do all the rendering because then some editing softwares let you render using the GPU but its best not too as they can overheat :)

I agree here, the more cores and more powerful the cores of the processor the faster and smoother rendering and editing will be. the GPU will then help rendering if you get editing software like Premiere Pro where you can set the GPU to help with rendering.

P.S. I'm so jealous you have a Drobo 5D IftiBashir I really want one but no way will I ever be able to afford the £700 or so price :')

Lol, its a great unit. I have it connected to my server for storage expansion.
I actually managed to get a reviewers discount, so I got around 40% off I think ;)

Some editing software don't use the GPU altogether, like some Sony software.

So the difference in the two is minimal, so it isn't worth the upgrade?

How much is your budget? Have you upgraded your PC already?

What's your motherboard? Are you using a AM2+ or AM3 or AM3+ motherboard?

Well the question has sorta been answere, but if you are willing to help:

I have an AM3+ motherboard and my budget is about 125. Give or take.

$125 Are you iinto bnew stuff or you'll take even a 2nd hand?

If you already have a 4GB stick then just buy the same stick.(Obviously)
GPU has a big effect in my opinion, especially on decreasing the rendering times.

I have an i5-2320 + Sapphire HD 6950 1GB and I only render @ 5mins with opencl available. Without it, it takes 30-1hr in rendering.

If you can put a hundred bucks more on your budget.

Get this:
AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W$140
HIS iCooler H775FS2G Radeon HD 7750 2GB 128-bit DDR3 $100

But if you can get a Phenom II X6 at less than a hundred dollars, get it.

I can get the Phenom for less than a hundred, but there is a bundle for the FX-6300 and a new motherboard for 119.

And I can't really fork up anymore now :/

Can you PM me the link of that bundle. You already have a AM3+ so it's kinda useless unless it has PCIE 3.0 support and send me the link of the Phenom II X6 (Be sure it's 1100T Black Edition).

you want more ram especially if your doing any type of HD video. Also no one asked you about your hard drive??
Whats the rpm of ur hard drive?
One with a fast read/write rate would make editing smoother and if you had more ram, the less likely hood that the preview will resort to your pagefile on the hard drive because of lack of real ram. Slowing things down.
CPU upgrade is great but wont speed up access time from a slow harddrive reading a raw video file and thrashing on a 4GB + pagefile at the same time.

I have a 500GB HDD 7200 RPM, not sure about the data speed. So many mixed answers, i dont even know what to do anymore.

Ugh.
