What Happens When You Don't Upload Videos Regularly?

I took a couple of breaks that were longer than 6 months and most of my subs were inactive when I came back it seemed like. My views did start to drop off too and I really lost any sort of momentum that I had from whatever I was doing before that. I think even if it's every few weeks just posting something is really important to let people know that you are still around.

Stopping regular uploads is like failing to show up to work, being late, leaving early.
It triggers alarm bells throughout the system.
The algorithm will question whether you are serious or had given up.
If it decides that you have given up, it stops serving your videos to viewers, because, what's the point?
From my own experience, a 5 day absence is the start of the decline. A 7 day absence sees a massive traffic drop.
Any longer that that, and you're fired!

I stopped for 2 months and my base on how much watch time I got daily without promoting increased. It went from 16 hours daily on September 14th to over 48 hours by November 23rd when I returned, with some days in early November spiking to 3 days. So it's still possible for your channel to grow when you take time off. My subscriber count actually doubled during this time. But with that said, I can only image how much I would have now if I didn't take time off...

For smaller channels, it is definitely going to affect the growth of the channel. Subscriber base must be strong enough to share your content even when you are not uploading any content. If you can't upload regularly, upload twice a week, or once a week. It should be good enough

So it is possible to take some time based on your stats and actually improve your views / subs. It looks like YouTube algorithm missed you and your uploads and rewarded you with a huge spike. as someone that uploads once every few months+ my channel definitely still has growth.
No doubt If I could post more often I would, but that would be physically impossible for me.

if your content can be produced at your best level in a day, upload in a day.
if it takes you a few days, weeks or months, then wait for it.
Subscribers really appreciate you taking the extra time to put into your content to make sure its the best you can make, it shows in their comments.

so analyse how long it takes you to do a great vid, and make that your schedule.

Yes my channel experienced a massive drop! It 100% because im a smaller channel with only 156 subs. Larger channels still experience a job, but when your a small channel i was averaging like 1-3 views a day without posting.

I actually did take a break for a few months and when I came back things had drastically changed my views and video watch retention went down and lost some subscribers. I take it as if your subscribers really mess with you heavy then you'll see an effect

People forget about you...if I subbed to you and you didn't upload everyday or every 3-4 days then I probably would forget you even existed. a week and a half max. lol
