What are the main KEYs to starting a channel?

Testing waters. Experimenting. Social interaction. Hardwork. Do what people do to make their channel grow. It's okay if you don't get subscription first atleast you can see that your views are growing. I also see that when you put another video the newer video will be viewed already.. So maybe put a spacing for making video and uploading video. I did it once a day the other views will separate on the other videos.. :)
