We Finally Made It... to the Big Leagues...

Even I had to deal with it in the past, and that was when I had 1000 subscribers. I haven't had it recently (not much bigger, at 3600 now) but I am always ready to shoot off a copyright claim. I will literally drop what I am doing when I find my footage elsewhere and do that.

That's a good question. I will research it.

But I read that if you do that, the thieves will only be encouraged more as they see you won't take down your videos. They will try to use sneaky tactics to get under you radar so you don't find them for a few months. Hence they can still make some money off you until then. Plus they steal your views and potential traffic and of course subscribers. I have seen popular kids channels pirated videos get tens of thousands of views. In aggregates, that is a lot of money and subs and traffic.

I think it's best to take down your videos, their accounts, and get them banned on Adsense. It's hard to keep opening Adsense accounts under false pretenses, so that is the best deterrent.

On a separate but related point, I added a copyright statement to the About page. There should be no question now about whether our videos can be used in this way again. I will also add a statement to every video going forward.

You have to be part of the Content-ID system and you have to sign up for it and be approved. From what I understand, you have to show that you regularly need to take videos down to the point where this system is necessary for you. There are also companies that have Content-ID that will act on your behalf if you sign up with them.

@KiddieToysReview, a way you could use Content-ID is merely for detection purposes. Once it finds one and alerts you, you can take the video down.

My understanding is that you have to join an MCN that is big enough to have content-id features enabled with Yt.

If there is a specific company doing only content-Id, and it's per month or per video or whatever subscription, that may be a good option.
 
I saw that careless dad video. They were even showing up in the suggested for your videos and getting a lot of traffic from there. I was hoping mine would show up on the strength of "crushing toys" without using 'careless dad' since thats more of your personal stamp. He did credit you in the description though.

Maybe one day youll be like hobbykids and your videos will say "inventor of careless dad" :)

I havent checked for re-uploaders (freeloaders) lately but they are annoying since it creates more work. You definitely will have to police for that. Ive seen some rtr uploaders with millions of views. Thousands of bucks stolen.

Ok cool, I didn't realize their one was showing up on our channel though, I found it through search for "careless dad".

I think I will make up more "dad" variations, will see....

Yep I let rtr know a few weeks ago as well, I had about 5 channels in the list for them to take down, heavy plagiarism on some of them. I'm surprised Yt doesn't run algos to auto-detect this...

How do you check for these? Do they usually change the titles of the videos? Are the tags and description changed? Where would one start to see of someone stealing their content?

Ive seen many that copy almost everything. So just search long tail keyword of same video and you might find it. I have come across others randomly. I usually find them during search. Occasionally ill recognize a stolen video from suggested column.

Also if you do a search in google you might see some stolen videos uploaded to dailymotion. Ive had to dispute thise before.

First congrats and thanks for letting us know those channels! Your channel is doing really well! Copyright claim takes hrs upon hrs every week for us due to the thousands of videos out there. We simply don't have the time to get them all. As soon as one is take down, hundreds more pop up. Some even dispute the copyright claim saying the video is "public domain" Of course they are not since they are of my son so we do what we can to shut down those channel. We finally sign up for content ID and got approve recently so Youtube automatic system is slowly finding our videos and blocking them. We were hoping it will automatically detect them all at once but it's slowly coming in, but hey it's better than nothing!
