Tumblr Allegations Against YouTubers

Is it bad that I'm not surprised? Annoyed, frustrated, but not surprised.

Also thank you to everyone who has corrected the misconceptions about rape culture above - I was getting a bit angry and uncomfortable in this forum when I was starting to feel like I was among a bunch of MRAs :/.

Also, did anyone see Alex Day's post "On Consent" (yttalk won't let me link it...) ?

Apparently he only just realised that even if a girl isn't screaming "no" she still might not want to have sex...

What I really hope is that these allegations don't paint YouTube as a website that is hostile to women - I love how open it is to all genders at the moment and to see it becoming just another way to exclude women from the public sphere is a bit horrible

Apparently saying "No" is too difficult? Alex is still the obvious idiot in this case, but going by common sense, if you don't want it, say no. I wouldn't partake in any guessing games.

All right, I'll bite. "Rape culture" is the popular term for a culture that, while perhaps not explicitly endorsing or condoning rape, does enable it. The chief symptom of "rape culture" is a social stigma that makes it difficult for victims to come forward and address their experience, whether that's seeking emotional/medical/psychological support or pursuing legal action.

Calling alleged victims "dumb *******" reinforces this social stigma and so is evidence of a "rape culture".

Men also suffer in a "rape culture", both as actual victims of assault and as the target of social pressures to perform and "get laid", equating their value and success as men to the number of partners they've had. Machismo-run-amuck leads to its own set of emotional and psychological issues.

Now there is an absurd wing of the "anti-rape culture" movement (as there is of every movement) and it's easy to find that absurdity on the internet, but I think the important thing to remember is to be mindful and compassionate when talking about rape, especially when all we know comes from some Tumblr posts and 3rd parties.
That's a good definition, I didn't think of the parts you described. I wasn't calling victims "dumb *******", I was referring to people who report false claims, as well as those people that devalue actual rape by mixing it up with utter stupidity i.e. "My boyfriend kissed me without my permission!" - "That's rape, my dear".

As for men and rape, how many people take a woman raping a man as anything but a joke? Never mind it's always the man's fault no matter what.[DOUBLEPOST=1395125737,1395125549][/DOUBLEPOST]

There's a plain difference in MRAs who b***h and people who don't want to be treated unfairly for having a d**k - to which if you get "angry" over, is hilariously retarded.

Well I, for one, don't find men who get raped a joke. There are many ways women can coerce a man to have sex against his will. No means no, no matter which gender says it.
Good to hear. I used to be a mega goof about "Men have it so bad! *snort", which thankfully those days are long done, but the occasional thing still irks me.

I understand your intent and appreciate it. I wish that rape would always be taken seriously and not trivialized by people seeking attention and participating in hyperbole. But what you actually did was make a decision that these girls claiming to have been sexually harassed/abused were liars.
"Rape culture" is tagged on there, which throws the legitimacy out the window for me. I think it's just dumb ******* who love to make false claims, just like for that Vine guy whose name escapes me. All the false accusations make me take every case with a pound of salt.

To be fair, apparently some of these girls making claims against YouTubers have admitted to lying. But we have to be careful not to lump legitimate claims in with these fake ones. IMO, badmouthing the attention-seekers is more harmful to real victims than it is helpful in deterring or correcting the liars.

Like Kleineganz says, there are ways for a woman to sexually abuse a man. There's also the possibility of men raping other men. Rape isn't limited to the hetero lifestyle.

Thanks for not dismissing my post, MegaBoringGuy, and making this a real conversation. Very cool of you. :)

Here was me thinking I knew what ‘rape culture’ was and now I stand corrected…

I thought it was to do with the fact that all too often now a days people make accusations of rape too easily without thinking of the consequences for everyone involved. Basically I thought it was people either crying wolf or trying to do harm to others by making false claims. I actually feel quite dumb for being so wrong haha Cheers for clarifying.

I suppose with all the recent allegations in the UK press about TV personalities acting ‘inappropriately’ it was only a matter of time before things started getting uncovered in other areas of the media.

The deal for me is this...
If the girls are underage then it's not okay period. Us fully grown women who should know better can fall for all kinds of lines and stories and manipulations so of course it will happen to those younger.
If the girls were of age and the guys were feeding them lines I still feel bad for them but the fact is that they're dealing a lot of time with men who have a lot of fame and money at a young age and their pick of girls.
Maybe they're promised the moon and maybe they just want to believe it's forever. There's a difference though between a woman who's young but of age and someone who is underage.
Under no circumstances what so ever...regardless of age - is any type of mental or physical abuse acceptable.
Yes this happens with men too but I can only speak as a woman.
Maybe some people are jumping on the band wagon. Maybe some guys just date a lot and there are some girls who wanted more so they're getting back at some of them. The fact is that no one is obligated to be in a relationship. They can just choose to date a lot. It doesn't sound cut and dried.

Yet another somewhat known YouTuber (and friend of Joey Graceffa & gang) has now also come forward - confirming what Kristina Horner has written about Luke Conard and adding even more damning evidence against him. He might not have done anything illegal, but what he has done is slimey and wrong. His entire "wholesome" image is crashing down around him now.

People cultivate these "good boy" "good girl" images to gain something then they come crashing down. The fact is a lot of them create them both for fame and fortune and to get laid.

Well the fact that Luke definitely did it, not only to "get laid" but to manipulate several women at once into sexual relationships with him, and manipulated even what they would wear, make them apologize for his s****y behavior? Yeah ... that's really not cool.
