Thought it'd be easier if I created good content(music)..but it isn't enough.

FWIW, I subbed to your channel a while back and do sometimes check for suitable tracks for my videos, but my output isn't that prolific and I have multiple sources so thus far I haven't used anything of yours.

That said, if I did obviously I'd credit you so I guess it's just a matter of time before it happens. I know that wouldn't transform your channel overnight, but every little helps, as they say.

Hey thanks for keeping my music in mind. I truly appreciate your support.[DOUBLEPOST=1455029927,1455029732][/DOUBLEPOST]
Others like Kevin McLeod have had great success with this model so no reason why you shouldn't. Word with spread organically as people recommend your music and feature it on their channels, I'm sure of it. Keep adding tracks and stay positive. Free original music will always be in demand. Best of luck! I will certainly take a look at your music for my other channels.

Yes I suppose it's a matter of sticking to it. Perhaps I had a few bad moments with some comments but it really shouldn't get me down. Thanks for the encouragement. Sometimes it helps to get feedback from others seeing it from the outside as perhaps I have been looking at it for too long. You know what I mean right? Thanks again for your support.[DOUBLEPOST=1455030069][/DOUBLEPOST]
Please don't give up. I don't really go to your YouTube channel (sorry). I use your website because I can sort the music by genre. Are you getting more website traffic since you started your YouTube channel?

Great! I thought my website kinda suck due to it being difficult to search. I find the playback using YouTube must faster and that pushed me to start a YT channel. I am putting the music into playlist on YouTube and I do feel it is easier but of course not all the tracks are listed there yet at the moment. Thanks for supporting.[DOUBLEPOST=1455030548][/DOUBLEPOST]
Oh, man. I'm sorry.

I used your song "Sneaky" in my latest upload and credited your website; did you want me to add the link to the actual video in as well, if that helps generate a little extra traffic for you? Would have done it last night, but my Internet was not great.

I seriously love your music and am happy to promote you where I can; I know I don't have a huge base, but thought it might help you out as you do so much for creators by producing all this great music for free!

Hey Emma, how you credited was perfect. No I don't need anything specific as long as it links to either my site or my channel. That should be fine. If you use multiple songs you can just do a universal single link if it makes it easier for you. I am fine with that too. Thanks so much for supporting my music. You are one of the recent YouTubers I've met that really stood out - in a good way of course! I think I've mentioned before I love your vibe and rawness. Btw congrats on 400 subs goal for Jan! Thanks for supporting my music :)

Oh, thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
I shared your channel with some friends of mine, so hopefully they'll take a look at your work. I'll still happily support your music for the time being! c;

I'd focus on your website more. People are more likely to Google this sort of thing, if you're making music purely for listening purposes then you might have a higher chance (not by too much though) but Creative Commons is a very specific area because people who are looking for those kind of songs are going to be looking for a specific one. Sometimes my most time consuming moments in editing aren't the actual editing but looking for the right music to use for a specific scene, I can sit there for an hour or more at times, even just looking through stuff I've already downloaded.

You've really got a good point. I was drawn to YouTube for the instant gratification of their superb fast player playback and also the ability to put in playlists. Of course I quickly realised too that it's another form of revenue as all of us see as well. Why get people to donate when I can get ad money from YouTube directly? It's a win win for everyone I suppose. But yes the website would probably be effective for specific music searches. I guess YouTube is just a gateway or introduction to the site. Just wondering if you were searching for music, what keywords would you use?

Hey Jay Man,

first of all, great work! I used to do composing myself, so I know how hard it is. :) Did you play the guitar in "Wave of Energy" yourself?

I used to have my own YT music channel (technically it's still there, I just don't upload anything anymore) and it definitely took a while until I started to get some views.

That said, here's a thing that came to mind and that you could experiment with: I feel you could be more communicative with your thumbnails and headlines.

For example, I think that all the photos you are using are very pretty but they don't necessarily convey a strong message what your music/video will be about. If you check out the most successful YT composers, their pictures are usually very genre-focused and sometimes even a bit corny (search for "scary music", for example). Maybe you can look at other successful channels that are making similar music and compare your thumbnail style.
Another thing is that the text on your thumbnails is hard to read because it's thin and small. And even then "Free Music For Content Creators" is actually not the most important thing, in my opinion. The most important thing is actually your genre and the mood - because people are looking for something very specific. So maybe experiment with putting your genre & mood in big letters on your thumbnail.

About the headline: Right now they seem to be a little cluttered with song title, genre, mood and "Free Music For YouTube Creators". I'm not sure how much this is helping you with search traffic - so take what I'm going to say next as a suggestion to experiment with (and not necessarily as the "right way to do things"):
1) Put Genre or mood first: that way it's easier to identify what your video will be about; example: scary ambient music
2) Make your titles more communicative: "mind over matter" or "worth the struggle" is nice - but it doesn't tell me what the song will be about. Songs can have titles like "Piano Inspiration" or "Dark Ambient Score". That way the title isn't only communicative but also contain some keywords. If you need to get some inspiration for your titles, browse audio stock website like audiojungle or pond5.

Another thing, are you promoting yourself outside of YouTube? If not, this is something you could look into.
- Make a website where you list all your music (can be very helpful in my experience)
- Go to filmmaker forums and promote yourself.
- Promote yourself in FB groups for YT creators.
- etc.

I'm also working on an article for my new blog where I collect sources for royalty free music. I will definitely include you there. :)

Let me know if you have any more questions about any of this.

Anna

Wow Anna. A whole lot of gems in your post. I am really going to look at them carefully and see how I can tweak things. Btw I do play the guitar on most of my tracks although that's not my first instrument but sometimes a buddy helps me out. I am a keyboardist and that explains why I am able to replicate a whole orchestra thanks to modern technology these days. Appreciate it Anna.

My pleasure. And, ha, yeah, I was a stock composer music and all my music came from plugins because I didn't really play an instrument. So good for you for actually having instrumental skills! :)

Music is music and it's great you compose as well. I am a jingle producer by profession so we've were trained to churn out tunes at a moments noticed based on a clients' direction and brief. It could be jazz in the morning and rock and roll in the afternoon for the next client. So I can't really rely on loops and samples too much and was kinda pushed into learning different instruments or at least how they work and sound in my head. My main instruments are the keyboards and the bass. Not very sexy but I suppose useful. Anyways is never to late to take up an instrument!

Give it time. The more people know, the better it will be. Any publicity is good publicity. For example, this thread made me find yoyr channel. I am sometimes in desperate need of music, so thanks for exposing me to your channel!

Don't take comments from trolls to heart... it's easy to get discouraged in the beginning but you will find your audience soon enough and the good comments and interaction you've been looking for will happen. They say a watched kettle never boils... so true. Just focus on ways to tweak SEO and thumbnails perhaps as some here have suggested (although I quite liked your thumbnails) and do the promotion thing and your channel will grow. As others have mentioned, YTTalk is the perfect place to grow your channel as most of us are creators in need of original music. :)
