Thought it'd be easier if I created good content(music)..but it isn't enough.

Loving YTtalk
Before starting YouTube, I thought if I work hard on creating good music content, it would be easy to share it. What more when my music is free. In doing prior research, I have been seeing many people asking where to get free music they can use for YT. I have even seen channels posting 'other' people's music and doing well. I thought offering free music that belong to me should be easier but it hasn't. I am feeling quite a bit of rejection or rather blahness that my music isn't good enough or free music isn't good music. Most don't even take time to check out the tracks before commenting.

Most of my views are from channels that use my music and are crediting to me. But even that said, I have YouTuber with up to 1 million subscribers using my music but the traffic that comes are somewhat minimal. YouTube doesn't seem to be promoting my videos much and I think it's because of the lower retention. I suppose people view a video for a few secs and move on until they find the right music. So the watch time is about 20% only. They don't listen to the whole track unless they think it's something they can use.

So besides creating good content, working on SEO (I've been tweeking that), what else should I do? I am a bit lost. Perhaps impatient too. Don't get it wrong I am not quiting (I have a goal of 5000 tracks and more to upload) but just want to move at a much faster speed. I know my channel isn't the typical YouTube video channel so I am wondering if anyone has any advice.

Hmm that is really tough, have you thought about messaging specific Youtubers and asking them to give you a shout out (in the video) if they use it? I know that wouldn't be the most effective way to get views but it could help a little. The only other thing I could think of is to do remixes of popular songs. You probably could never really place ads on the videos if you did, but I believe remixes/covers are allowed now, and it could bring in more views.

Sometimes these things just take time, it looks like you've uploaded most of your videos just since December, it will take a while for people to find you. Another thing could be that many channels that are in networks may already get free music without copyright restrictions, I know of several networks that offer this.

Networking here on YTtalk is a great way to keep traffic coming to your channel, seems like people are always looking for music so just stick with it!

Thanks Rae. Yes I have been contacting some YouTubers directly but carefully too. I don't want to be come across as spamming. It's a great idea definitely. Thanks.[DOUBLEPOST=1455010477,1455010111][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes I think you are definitely right. It just takes time and consistency. I guess a couple of rejections are common along the way. I also agree about the free music from networks. Honestly I have some skepticism about free music but that's another story altogether.

I totally agree. YTTalk has been invaluable and members here all are truly like a family. I've had so much help in learning about setting a channel etc and have also in turn received a lot of support.

Thanks RaeTalks and Babyteeth4.

FWIW, I subbed to your channel a while back and do sometimes check for suitable tracks for my videos, but my output isn't that prolific and I have multiple sources so thus far I haven't used anything of yours.

That said, if I did obviously I'd credit you so I guess it's just a matter of time before it happens. I know that wouldn't transform your channel overnight, but every little helps, as they say.

Others like Kevin McLeod have had great success with this model so no reason why you shouldn't. Word with spread organically as people recommend your music and feature it on their channels, I'm sure of it. Keep adding tracks and stay positive. Free original music will always be in demand. Best of luck! I will certainly take a look at your music for my other channels.

Please don't give up. I don't really go to your YouTube channel (sorry). I use your website because I can sort the music by genre. Are you getting more website traffic since you started your YouTube channel?

Oh, man. I'm sorry.

I used your song "Sneaky" in my latest upload and credited your website; did you want me to add the link to the actual video in as well, if that helps generate a little extra traffic for you? Would have done it last night, but my Internet was not great.

I seriously love your music and am happy to promote you where I can; I know I don't have a huge base, but thought it might help you out as you do so much for creators by producing all this great music for free!

People here have mentioned making playlists that include other people's videos to drive traffic to their channel. Maybe you could make a playlist of videos that use your songs.

I'd focus on your website more. People are more likely to Google this sort of thing, if you're making music purely for listening purposes then you might have a higher chance (not by too much though) but Creative Commons is a very specific area because people who are looking for those kind of songs are going to be looking for a specific one. Sometimes my most time consuming moments in editing aren't the actual editing but looking for the right music to use for a specific scene, I can sit there for an hour or more at times, even just looking through stuff I've already downloaded.
