Hey everyone! So I've been watching a ton of vlogging recently, especially Casey Neistat. He just reached 3 million subscribers, which got me thinking. Why do people love daily vloggers so much? I'm not accusing, since I watch them all the time as well, but when my Dad watched a vlog with me he didn't really understand. Casey definitely has a "personality," but he's not super enthusiastic or anything. Why do people like him have so much success? I really like his footage and drone clips, but I was wondering what you guys thought.

Thanks! :)

I really think it has to do with the curiosity of knowing someone elses life. Most people want to know what other people are doing, like if you go out with friends you're basically just talking about what's happened to you since you last met, what you're doing now, etc. Vlogging is sort of to appeal to that, and there's an even greater need when a person gets more popular. Hence why Kim Kardashian is all over the news, everyone is sick of her, but at the same time I'm so invested in her life and I want to know more.

There's also a level of comparison that people draw when they watch vlogs. Most of the time my thoughts aren't going towards, "Wow they're living a cool life!" It's more of, "Wow, I /wish/ I had this cool life!" or something to that nature. I think it's very psychological why we like them - but hey, if people like it then there's no need to stop them haha!

I have watched some daily vloggers, but don't watch all their videos. It is personality more than anything else. They just have that appeal that draws everyone in. The hype is everyone else trying to do the same thing and expecting similar result. You either got it or you don't. And the main mistake everyone makes when starting out is just producing as much content as they can. You can only really get away with pumping out daily content when you got an established viewer base that likes stuff like that.

I think a lot of people got to know whatever vlogger they watch early, and stuck with them as they got larger and their lives changed. So they do more interesting things to get more views and folks check in as a force of habit, and don't really think too much about why.

I don't watch too many straight-up vloggers, because a lot of their videos seem to be reaching to find something cool to show. If they're not daily vloggers, it's a little bit easier to swallow, but even the once-in-a-while vloggers either just drag you to whatever they're doing (Shopping At Target! Going For A Drive!) or they try to convince you they're having an amazing time of it every minute of the day. Sort of like all social media, except you don't know the people personally at all.

I watch Casey's and GaryVee's vlogs because I really like what it is that they both do for their careers and it's pretty interesting peering into what their lives are like!

I think part of it is being a bit nosey, but their lifestyles are also something I kind of aspire to. An insane amount of travel, doing whatever you want, and taking the time to appreciate nature and your surroundings. Sounds like a great deal to me!
