The sub feed has changed position: does it matter?

Sorry for not interacting with you guys after making this thread. I've had a dance show and music video shoot in one weekend with rehearsals for each so my schedule has been manic.

It's interesting to see how some people like the new system while some people prefer the old system. I think that giving people a choice is ideal, however.

YouTube is pushing engaged videos because engagement is important. Twitter fails to push engaging tweets and for that reason, it's falling behind. The other social media platforms, the ones that have algorithms that promote content with plenty of comments are the platforms that are succeeding.

Sure man, they've changed their algorithm and it broke the traditional system that has been there for years. The " recommendations " now suck. It feels broken. The reason you lost so many views (and everybody else) is that after somebody watched your vid, even when subscribed, they wont see your other vid highlighted or recommended anymore. I have such random vids in my recommendations now, vids that are not even related to what ive watched etc. The way to boost now is almost to beg your new viewers to sub and everybody else to comment, like and share. Because now Youtube is promoting channels that have allot of engagement.

It's a pretty s****y and flawed system to be honest. The old one was better but this one has it's pros too. If you get a lot of engagement I guess you will get promoted more often.

YouTube really is broken, huh?
But with 6 subscribers, I'm still getting an ok 2 - 10 views.
Engagement seems to be the key in this new algorithm change, so encouraging your subscribers and viewers to like and comment is key to get recommended once again.

Just out of curiosity, how often were you posting?
It seems like channels that posted daily were the hardest hit.

On our main channels, one of us has had it rough the last month and one of us had the best month ever. So it looks like the algo change has been a mixed bag for a lot of people. We've debated it between ourselves a lot and in our last recording came to a working theory that YouTube is aiming for weekly/monthly episodic content like you could find on Netflix.

What are engaged videos and how does YouTube recognize them?

I mean, when I upload a 5min video that took me 10 hours to make in comparison to a video that took me 10min. to make and 5min long too... How will YouTube realize that?

I know this isn't about Twitter but I just wanted to say, I liked the way Twitter was before when I got tweets from who I followed, in order, and could scroll back up to see ~everything~ I'd missed. Now its just stressful, i don't want top tweets, top youtube videos or even top stories on facebook :')

It analyses how long the viewrs are watching your videos and what they do after that (continue to watch or leave). The algorithm doesn't care about likes, comments, subs etc.

I keep hearing all these dire messages about subscribers and views, but every good subscriber I have tends to find my videos really quickly after upload, so I'm not sure where that's coming from. I think subscribing allows you to keep up with the channels you like, and it helps them in ranking (not as much as engagement, but it helps).
