The future of YouTube is discouraging...

I can understand some points as to why people with smaller channels are upset. But I'm positive that you'd need way more then 4,000 hours (per 12 months) and 1,000 Subs in order to make a livable wage just from Youtube alone after the Adpocalypse.

Youtube should be for fun. To encourage, promote and inspire others. Were us smaller channels actually making anything to really be upset about? I'm not saying I am for the new rules but I do think some are blowing this way out of proportion. Since when was Youtube all about money and only money. Our favorite Youtubers whether big or small all do it because they love it. Not for the income. The income came much later.

But again that's just my opinion on it. =\

Nobody mention that I can live with my small youtube account. But with 100 bucks a month I was getting before (and they will cut it now) I was been able to upgrade my equipment, pay for my editing software, pay for a logo designer, etc. All these things helped me tremendously to grow my youtube even faster. And now without that small money support, things will be much harder. So shame on youtube for doing this.

What's been happening has been very discouraging, not going to lie. I've watched things on YouTube change a lot over the years, it was sad. Adpocalypse and partner program changes were among the biggest things that were discouraging.

But you know what? I'll be damned if I let that stop me from doing this. When I decided to make this channel I made a promise to myself, and I found that I actually love making this kind of videos. YouTube is going to have to shove it's boot as far as they can up my rectum and then some if they want me to quit without being banned for breaking the rules (side note, I doubt they actually want to kick me, a nobody creator, off, I'm just saying how I feel).

I love making storytime animation/animatic videos. I love entertaining people. I love seeing people laugh. That's why I do this (well, partly, there's another reason that is far too personal for me to get into), and I won't let YouTube's problems take that away from me.

Completely agree with you. Everything that is happening is bad however, we started YouTube for the love of the content we are creating. Nothing should stop you form continuing so it may be a little harder for you to start getting paid for it etc. etc. however, that shouldn't matter if you have the passion and drive to carry on.

Also I have a cool video idea, and need an animators help... are you interested. Not 100% sure what it's going to be yet, but got a basic idea. Just thought it would be a fun collaborative project.

I think the issue with YouTube's algorithm change is that, yes, although YouTube should be a place where people generate content because they are passionate about it that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to profit either. People need jobs and to generate income to live. If you're a small YouTuber and YouTube was your job, and this algorithm has reduced your earnings, will you still be able to create these things you love? It diminishes competition for those at the top at the expense of smaller YouTubers and their financial situations (mind you even large channels have seen a cut in their revenue). If they have to get a real job to survive now that is going to effect their ability to generate content. It really is a shame. YouTube is so productive and yet they are making it easier and easier to deny content creators income, so that they can keep more of it for themselves. It may be within their power, but I don't consider it reasonable. I wonder whether a YouTube competitor may eventually take advantage of this.

I know exactly what you mean, while I do this entirely as a hobby (I do have ads, but I don't make any money, It's just a habit to have ads at this point.. and I actually don't mind the fact that my videos aren't going to be monitized for much longer) I wouldn't be able to put as much effort into it in the FUTURE if it doesn't at least fund itself, if that makes sense.. I don't need it to be a JOB or for me to make a living off it, but I would LOVE for it to cover the cost of my videos!

Youtube is maturing and becoming a better platform for serious content creators. That's all that is happening here.
You're not wrong. but it's not JUST about the money aspect. It's the fact that people have to censor themselves. That's probably not an issue for you though because I see your channel is very family oriented. Given there are some topics that people should tread lightly around. I just think it's silly that people can't cuss if they want to get paid or they have to not talk about weed (even if it's "cat weed" like catnip styled like pot. Shane did a video like that and it got demonitized) I don't plan on cussing a lot (I only did once on my channel) but it sucks for the bigger guys who just talk like that or that is just their personality. I mean I guess they can bleep it, but still. My thoughts are really jumbled, but do you understand where I'm coming from?

Also, I just wanted to say your channel is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SUPER CUTE. You look like you guys put a lot of work into everything from your vision of what you want it to look like, to the feel of your videos. It's great. Good job. I never thought of putting recent videos up in the banner! You must change that all the time. That's some real dedication. Respect!

Ultimately, I am worried about YouTube's future but if you take a look at other video hosting sites (taking Twitch as an example) - they have their standards set at a high margin to begin with. The 'adpocalypse' and the raising of the requirements is simply a reflection of just how quickly YouTube has grown. Not everyone can have it all, YouTube has recognized this and made it harder to reach the so called 'dream'. Simply because it used to be hard to get a YouTube partnership and it has become a lot easier in more recent years. They are simply restoring a bit of the prestige that comes along with partnership status and at the same time making sure that people don't just want a quick buck from video production.

Guys you need to understand you will need 1000 Subscribers, 4000 hours of watch time that's about 240,000 minutes per year that alone is not easy for a new channel unless you have something really good going with your channel. And on top of that YouTube is going to review your channel under their discretion decide to let you into the program I am sure many many many will not be allowed into the program.
