The Dreaded but Loved First 100

So I hear about people getting 100 subs in about a month, which I think is crazy good, figuring that I have been around for 6 months and I only have 53. Now, thing is I DID start off doing gaming, and then I wanted to do something that everybody wasn't doing so I did sketch comedy. I know its not the best video or audio quality, but I still believe people find it better than other channels doing way better than me, according to what they say. Even though, I did have my gaming channel for about 2 months before I dropped YouTube for a while and I only had 18 subs. Now that I have recreated my channel into something new, I have increased by only 32 in 2 months. What am I doing wrong? Or is there anybody else out there who started out like this but then found success?
