That awkward moment when...

This is exactly the reason why i'm with an MCN, so i have access to content id. There is no question hes stealing views from you and you could DMCA him, but what i instead do is file a manual content id claim and monetize the reupload. I have countless reuploads like this that sometimes have more views than original.

He's not transforming the animation (video) part at all. He's taken the whole thing and reuploaded it with a different commentary. It probably takes him 1 hour of work (at the very most) per video to do the dub. How many hours of work did you do in comparison? :) They're just leeching off your hard work. - It's probably the easiest copyright claims ever for YouTube to process.

If it were me, I'd be flagging them all and then paying a studio to dub the videos into Spanish, French, etc (with full copyright passing to you) and creating separate channels per language.

Sounds like a great idea this. And yeah you are right it takes a million years to do animation, its a lot of hard work. Sounds pricey going to get a studio to dub them though - probably worth it for a million views.

Also, and best of all, he would basically have a multinational channel, which sounds cool af!

Contact him, work with him. You won't have the Spanish speaking people anyway, don't be a FineBros
how am I being a finebros?
They are not monetising the video, i thought it would be cool if youtube allow you to link dubs with the original video in the same way they allow subtitle submissions.
I'm not being greedy, or trying to "trademark" anything at all.
literally what is the link here?

They should have asked you for permission, full stop. I'm sure it's very flattering that they liked it enough to share it with an entirely different audience, but it's not their place to decide that.

Even Disney had to buy the rights from Studio Ghibli to distribute their movies to a Western audience - so there's no reason why someone should take your work for free. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, so it's very likely that there will be a lot of people watching videos in Spanish (HolaSoyGerman is the second most subscribed channel, with about 26 million). So, that'll explain the high number of views.

But regardless, you do need to contact the person and say that they should have asked for permission. If you don't say something, it'll only cause others to think it's OK to do the same in future.
