I personally think beeping is funnier than hearing someone use a generic swear in most cases. However, making up your own swearing combinations is funny... "Oh, yay, looks like you've killed me again, you fuckin' asstrumpet dicktit."
As another aside about the swearing = honesty thing... In trying to find the studies on it, there are tons of people
saying there's a study, and viral images saying research supports it, but no actual studies doing so. The only study that involved it was a study in How to Spot a Liar in business negotiations:
On average, liars used more swear words than did truth tellers—especially in cases where the recipients voiced suspicion about the true amount of the endowment. "We think this may be due to the fact that it takes a lot of cognitive energy to lie," Van Swol says. "Using so much of your brain to lie may make it hard to monitor yourself in other areas."
And that's kind of a mixed bag. It's saying that in the study swearing = dishonest, but business negotiations aren't exactly everyday circumstances. Also, the researchers' hypothesis on that is essentially that not-swearing takes up the same energy as not-lying, so I think you get into debating the exact definition of "honesty" that you're going for.
I dunno. Anyway, I don't want to derail the conversation
too much, but if anyone finds some studies on swearing and honesty/authenticity then I would love to read them.
