Hmm its a interesting question, I feel some people swear to much but on the other hand if someone was to get frightened or very fustrated in a video i wouldn't be bothered if they swore to vent, I know i do the same. I suppose it depends on the audience you want as well, if you don't swear or bleep out there is a chance you could reach more people however nowadays i think even the youngest of children ive heard alot of swearing either tv youtube or games.

I see why you watch your language.

That's what I was thinking lmao. It's hard not to swear man and I really don't want to be thinking of what I'm going to say before I say it makes it seem less natural.

I feel ya. You have to keep it professional at all times lol. :pompus:

Someone who swears a lot is far more trustworthy. They are the sort of person who speaks from the heart and not the head. I feel far more comfortable with people who swear because I know they aren't speaking a certain way to try and improve their standing.

That's very true I guess the more you swear the greater impact it would have on the age group of your viewers. Thanks for your input man.

P.S. The kiddies on YT have dirtier mouths then most of us lol.

I feel like this is going off of the assumption that everyone thinks in a constant stream of swears, which I'm, ah, fairly sure isn't true for everyone. And by that, I mean I know I don't. It's one thing if you see a person swearing all the time around some people but pretending that they don't cuss around others, but this belief on its own seems a bit assumptive.

(Also, I mean, think of all the people who start swearing just to fit in, i.e. most middle schoolers/teenagers trying to look cool.)

That's the best explanation to why it's okay to swear I've heard man. Here's a terminator(kinda) for your awesomeness :borg2:.[DOUBLEPOST=1405119644,1405119377][/DOUBLEPOST]

I see where your coming from you don't swear very much I'm assuming so you don't understand the struggle not to swear when all your doing all day is swearing with the people around you lol. I'm not saying I can't get through a sentence without swearing it's just that I rather say what comes to mind then take time to think about what I'm saying simply because I want to accommodate to others needs. Not sure if this makes sense I'm really tired lol. If it doesn't ignore me lol :p

Research does actually support this, so it's not that I am making assumptions, its that I have read a few articles on it.

While it might be statistically significantly true, my point was just that you can't assume that it's true for all people; somebody whose active vocabulary doesn't include swearing isn't being "inauthentic" by using the terms they're adjusted to using. In the same way... if a group's stereotype is true for 70% of the population, a study could make generalizations in order to describe the population but if you assume it's true for the entire population then you'd be wrong 30% of the time.

So that's just what I'm saying-- yeah, I'm sure a lot of people hold off on swearing in front of certain people just to look good. Just not all non-swearers are holding themselves back, and I think it'd be a mistake to assume that they're dishonest people because of it (even if it's frequently true).

Well it depends on if its authentic or not. If you swear alot in your normal day to day conversations then it will sound authentic, in that case yeah swear your f*****g a** off (see what I did there) Beeping out the swear words is also cool if you want to reach a broader audience because I think youtube age restricts some videos when they have alot of swear words. Also if you're going to beep out your swears try adding a cool sound instead of the normal beep.

What sound do you recommend? Because I'm going to need it for my Dark Souls 2 Vids that I'm going to start soon.

I personally think beeping is funnier than hearing someone use a generic swear in most cases. However, making up your own swearing combinations is funny... "Oh, yay, looks like you've killed me again, you fuckin' asstrumpet dicktit."

As another aside about the swearing = honesty thing... In trying to find the studies on it, there are tons of people saying there's a study, and viral images saying research supports it, but no actual studies doing so. The only study that involved it was a study in How to Spot a Liar in business negotiations:
On average, liars used more swear words than did truth tellers—especially in cases where the recipients voiced suspicion about the true amount of the endowment. "We think this may be due to the fact that it takes a lot of cognitive energy to lie," Van Swol says. "Using so much of your brain to lie may make it hard to monitor yourself in other areas."

And that's kind of a mixed bag. It's saying that in the study swearing = dishonest, but business negotiations aren't exactly everyday circumstances. Also, the researchers' hypothesis on that is essentially that not-swearing takes up the same energy as not-lying, so I think you get into debating the exact definition of "honesty" that you're going for.

I dunno. Anyway, I don't want to derail the conversation too much, but if anyone finds some studies on swearing and honesty/authenticity then I would love to read them. :)
