Should I tell people I know about my channel?

So, I'm kinda tossing up between keeping my channel a secret, or spreading it all over social media for my friends and acquaintances to see.
There are pros and cons to this. Pros of sharing is that my channel with get noticed, shared and my views and subscribers will go up, and you never know, people might love my channel! But the cons to sharing is that people I know will know about my channel and give me a hard time because I am a "youtuber" and I am putting my dignity on youtube so I have to have courage to show people I hardly know, yet face everyday, who I really am, which may take a toll on me in the future. I post very unusual, out there content, and people might give me a hard time for it. I'm only young so of course I think these things.
I'm trying to build my audience, and I can't find any other way to get myself out there.
I don't want sharing my youtube channel to change how people see me, but I would like to become courageous and put myself out there.
What do?
What have you done?
Thank you!

Well for me, first I did a video about a laptop review where I didn't speak in it. I got a few comments like, "oh great, another one of these videos." I asked what he meant, he just meant a YouTuber who doesn't speak. So I got a USB mic and started talking in my videos. Later I moved on to recording myself in with my newer videos. Either showing how to use a product or just a tutorial. No one complained.

Now I film with an iPhone 6s for 4k and a condenser mic for great audio and video quality. I just keep improving, and the daily subscribers and views go up.

My suggestion to you is increase and improve your videos at the rate you feel comfortable with. Do I recommend sharing videos to other social networks, yes. The more you or your viewers share your videos to other networks the more your subscribers/views increase. It is a necessity for healthy channel growth.

Think about con & pro, then just do it!
Personally I will not announce my channel to my friends & relatives first until I have some audiences.

It really depends on how comfortable you are with it! Personally, I was not comfortable at all in the beginning but then when I started growing and started getting more comfortable with my own stuff, I started sharing with really close friends and now I just share it with everyone :)

If your friends are going to be mean to you about your interests, then you need a better class of friends.

It's a personal choice. But it is nice to have an audience that you know and trust and can interact with to give you real input. Unless you feel the embarrassment outweighs the benefit. Our faces are on our channel, but I don't send emails out to my family and friends. But they know about it. Some think it's lame, and some know it's not.

Good luck.

I have always shared my videos, but a lot of my videos are not me talking. But I will normally share with friends and family whenever I upload something new even when it was a twerking panda riding a Roomba with a GoPro attached. That video some of my girlfriend's coworkers were like "wow, does he have that much time on his hands???" I just laughed, they all know I have a YouTube channel and I'm fine with it. Sometimes you just have to say f**k it and do what you want
