I made the switch after I have been investigating a little in the past week. So the thing is it really helps you with SEO a lot! I mean both Google+, Youtube and the Google search are products by Google, so when these are linked they will help each other to determine which content is yours. That way when somebody searches your name, they will get much better search results when all your accounts are linked. Also the next thing is the Google Authorship, as a website owner who likes to write articles, Google+ now gives me a very easy way to link my name to those articles, and when you search them on Google it will display my name and avatar in the Google search results without to much of a hassle. This was already possible, but it would've involved quite some coding. Next in my Google+ page for my channel, I now linked all my social media profiles, websites and other channels. Now Google will take all that information and use it to generate much better search results regarding your brand or name. In the end, this all just helps to get better SEO, and if you want to be found on the web, this is a must.
Also I have set it up so that every video I upload will automatically be shared on Twitter, Facebook and the Google+ Page without me even going to those three sites. That way I now reach much more people whenever I upload a video, resulting in more video views and subscribers. I also like the way how they give you a opportunity to make a 'top fan circle', since to me communication with your viewers is key to building a good and reliable fanbase.
Don't get me wrong, I was against using Google+ for a long time, but that was before all the new features had been added and before I actually took some time to investigate what Google+ could do for me in terms of SEO.
I'm hoping it's just due to server lag. Maybe it will be back in the morning. *yawns* I kind of like G+ though, it's kind of sexy. If only more people used it.
