Because if we do not learn from the mistakes of others we might just find ourselves making the same mistakes and in even worse shape.

But heaven forbid you ever become famous and build a brand. They will want half, if not all, of it.

Not exactly. They have a 60/40 contract and that is with most of their partnerships. They wanted 50% of the rights because they co-produced it, isn't that logical? They gave him a 12 person team for FREE!

He denys having that 12 person team. Classic he said he said going on here.
Personally, I believe that it was his own brain child and therefore he owns rights to it. He wasn't with Maker from the very start of his show. If they wanted those rights they would have to buy them. It's logical that people respect other people's creativity and not be jerks about it. Also, trying to force a renegotiation of a contract before it is even half was to term is just plain fishy and screams greed.

No. If I come up with something and the company I'm with says alright, we are offering you a 50% cut w/e but we give you a whole studio to use. If I deny, that's it. Your old contract is still going. They did not force him to sign the new one.

But according to him they tried to force him to sign the new one. I know you're trying to help your network save face but that face has already been mangled enough to leave scars. So let's stop arguing. Okay? Okay.

I'm not trying to 'save ' my network as I am new to them and there are no benefits of that. All I'm saying is that this argument is so one-sided. Ray just wants an easy way out of his contract, did you even research this? :/

the main point is they didnt bring this up before the yfm album. They started shooting the new contracts at ray once the album was done and waiting the final stamp of approval. Than ray rejected the new contract and they started aggressively sending more contracts his way. If you read rays rants and listen to him he was ok paying them more to use the studio but it was when they wanted to own a portion of =3 he told them to back off but they didn't they just tryed shoving a different contract in his face and when he refused they shut down =3 "a =3 lock out' instead of a lock out happening ray left makers and started filming from his house again and gave up the yfm portion completely. Now he is fighting for his ad-sense account and he is fighting for his breakingnyc account. Makers if they are smart will give him what they ask for and be done with it they shot them selves in the foot its up to the them to bandage this up before they bleed out or infection sets in.

I see what you mean BUT Ray is still under contract with Maker and during the length of the contract has Adsense is under Maker's adsense.

I am most assuredly not with his network, I am with Creator X. That being said.. I agree with him. Your Favorite Martian was being bankrolled and supported (more then 50 %) on the side of the maker. To want rights to that, is not unreasonable. Even if RWJ came up with the idea, doesn't mean he should always own the rights forever and always 'ZOMG'. Infact, in the movie making business - the original creator of the idea will often sign their rights over to the company that bank rolls and puts the information over. The one person to not do that is George Lucas.. Most everyone else does.

I love the word 'force'. No they didn't force.. They did attempt to strong arm. However, RWJ grabbed his ball and went home. He doesn't have the resources to produce Martian with out them and they may have some rights to it anyway..so the project closed down. Which is sad.. it's the only material of RWJ I /like/.

Anyway.. i'm ranting..
