I Love YTtalk
I can completely understand why he would do this. My channel is very, very small and so I don't get many comments and the ones I do are usually very positive so it is easy for me to respond to each and every one and I like doing it because they are all nice. However, big youtubers like PewDiePie get so many comments there is no way they could get completely engaged in discussions on their videos because they would have to sit there 24/7 and still never be able to comment to everyone. So it's not like they are commenting back that often or if at all anyway. And it seems to me when I look at comments the people who have something negative to say or are just trolls are the ones commenting and people who like the videos are just thumbs upping and not commenting and you end up with a video with 100,000 thumbs ups and 40,000 comments where all you see is rude comments and then people fighting about it. Even if he did go to try to comment all the time he would be writing back to thousands of negative comments, some of which are extremely cruel and who would want to do that. Sometimes I watch videos I love and I go to write a nice comment and when I read the others they are all rude and if I write something nice everyone gives me all kinds of crap about it how I'm wrong for liking a video. It gives the whole channel a bad vibe. Basically, what I'm getting at is if he is not writing back to comments anyway and all the comments are rude and causing fighting, what is the point of it? I write on people channels to tell them what I think and for them to comment back to me, not to get in fights with random people.
