PewDiePie Has Turned Off Comments FOREVER!

I will never turn comments off. They are a great way to communicate with fans. It is also helpful to listen to constructive feedback. I really can't comment on PewDiePie. I'm not subscribed to his channel.

I completely understand where he's coming from. If I was to check my comments and always see self-advertisement and harassment between eachother, it would make sense that the only way to prevent it is through disabling the entire feature. At first I saw this post and thought, "WHAT?! WHY?!" but then after thinking about it more and watching it, I realized that the kind of comments he was being spammed with are really a buzzkill, and would hurt your overall experience. I wouldn't want that crap filling up my videos, either. It's a bittersweet decision. No more spam+disrespect in the comments, but also no more positive and pure comments either. I really hope this issue is resolved in some way that allows him to get his comment sections back up and running. It really isn't the same if you can't scroll down and comment about the video you just watched, or see other funny comments about it. I hope the spammers realize this and stop what they're doing.

I see his point of view. I would hate it when someone pimps his own channel over and over again. The comment section is not the place to advertise your channel or your video. Send me a PM with that stuff, then I might or might not check it out. But I bet in PDP's case that is impossible. Millions and millions of views and subscribers.

It is the price you pay for youtube success. Haters gonna hate. And both camps will battle it out as true keyboard warriors in your comments.

Like nearly everyone has said, I understand why he's doing it - though I'd never do it for my own.

He is though, instead using Reddit as a different sort of commenting system.

he claims its because of spam, pure bullcrap...i unsubbed.

He can easily hire two or three trustworthy people to block spammers. It's not that hard to do. As long as he trusts them with his account info then its a simple job.

I'm not sure I buy into his reasoning. TV, radio, and podcasts don't have comment sections that can be abused so easily.

I understand why he did it. And honestly I don't really blame him because Ive seen so many spam/harrassing comments on one of my higher viewed videos and its really sad to see some of the things people say behind a computer but I can't imagine how many he gets on a daily basis

I'm not a PewDiePie fan, but I actually respect him for this decision. His comment sections were giant cesspools of utter garbage. I'd assume with his following you'd become numb to both compliments and insults, and after that there's only people self-promoting there. His comment sections were never really about the videos anyways.

Edited: Still fuming, unsubbed, and have that same icky feeling that a fan would get when a star athlete holds out during training camp. Have since moved on to the other millions of entertaining youtubers.
