Parents just don't understand, ya know.

Well I just re-researched and everything I thought I saw, I'm still seeing. Idk if you may be lucky enough to have never been caught, or if there's some rules somewhere I keep missing, but everything I see is saying COD content is only LEGALLY allowed to be monetized with consent from the devs directly or through a sponsor which has that consent, so you're able to do it because you "work for" them. Until I find some solid evidence, I guess I'll have to hold back on monetizing my videos. And I'd advise every1 else out there to do the same.

Added: Just saw your channel. I didn't see 1 COD upload. If you are monetizing the videos that you do upload without being penalized, it's because your uploading Minecraft videos which is 1 of the few games that you are allowed to monetize. You should research what you say before you wrongfully tell people they can do it because you did it. Especially when you AREN'T doing this.
You're really getting on my nerves with your crap, dude. If you are partnered with any of the large networks, such as Fullscreen, Machinima, TGN etc you can monetize gameplay without any repercussions or copyright claims. This is how large channels such as xJawz, WoodysGamertag, Ali-a do it. You can ALSO do this without partnership from a network, there is no official document stating that you can NOT monetize Call of Duty gameplay therefore claiming that it is "ILLEGAL" is a misleading claim.

Monetizing minecraft content?
A) NONE of my Minecraft videos are monetized
B) I play Indie Games, ya twat.
C) I've been on YouTube for 5 years, and never have I heard of someone being striked for Call of Duty gameplay.[DOUBLEPOST=1393904344,1393904185][/DOUBLEPOST]Quote taken directly from the Terms of Service, nice research dude.

How do YOU go about making money on your channel posting gaming content? I thought you weren't allowed to monetize gaming videos since the content belongs to the game itself? Or is that just with COD, or do I have it wrong either way?
Legally it would fall under fair use. Problem is that excuse doesn't really fly unless you're in a court of law.

The thing is, you still need a 'real job' in the meantime. If you're still living at home, mooching off your folks, you got no real place to turn down stable jobs and waste time on Youtube unless you're lucky enough to live off it like Pewds and Angry Joe.

I know parents can come off as jerks, but they're just worried you'll slack off in real life matters and rely on Youtube, and then whenever they're gone and Youtube falls, you'll be stuck unable to get a real job.

OP's dad was cool. Just a curious guy wanting to know more about what his son up to, like a good responsible parent... but geez, the gf is such a nosey b***h. Even if she was right (which I'm not saying she was), she has no place to say that. If she had kids she wouldn't like the dad talking crap about them.

Least your dad was caring, I guess. I can understand what most parents could see it as: wasting your time on the computer all day when you could be outside making "friends" lol. :p Once the money starts rolling in, it starts to change their point of view. So be considerate of their possible wariness (I wouldn't listen to your dad's girlfriend though..).

Agreed!

Yeah, Dad thinks its awesome. He's actually looking at creating a channel once we move. :P

His girlfriend just doesn't understand it, she doesn't take risks. She sees it as a waste of "potential money-making" time.

I guess if Youtube existed back in my day (lol), and I decided to jump into it, I'd have to do crap like chores and homework first. I can't really say what my folks would have thought cause that kind of thing didn't exist back then. I mean, we made home movies and such but that was of course, just for us, since there wasn't something that would unleash it to the general public like Youtube. Thank goodness, LOL we were such dorks back then. Least now we're old enough to know we're dorks and run along with it. I know my videos would have to have been clean though, no swearing in the house and obviously if they saw me dropping F bombs online I can't turn around and say 'it wasn't me'. LOL

Then all of a sudden his girlfriend jumps in like "It's just a waste of f*cking time, he needs to get a job and stop being a lazy c*nt talking to his online boyfriends"

Too bad you didn't filmed her saying that.
I'm sure there is a big chance it would go viral on youtube.

Uuuuhhhmm, I never once saw him claim that he himself had EVER posted a COD video, so perhaps you should read better before YOU go on to critique someone. Furthermore, he is completely correct. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people upload COD videos, that are fully monetized. Whether this is against the rules or not, I do not know, but do what you will with the information that a s**t load of people do it. Also, the rules of engagement for picking what games to play, is to avoid companies that SPECIFICALLY state that they DON'T want you monetizing a video of their game. Otherwise, your pretty much okay. Hope this helps.

I asked SPECIFICALLY about monetizing COD vids. He quoted that in his response and specified monitizing COD vids, and foll9wed up by stating "In 4 years he never got a strike for uploading gaming content." in his next sentence! Although he didn't say it DIRECTLY, it was IMPLIED. If anyone here reading this thread, me included, would have chose to do so after reading his comment on COD videos, based ONLY on his results in uploading Minecraft vids, they would not be able to get their strike removed by saying they were given un-clear advise by someone that never even monetized a COD video. I'm sorry if I came off harsh, but people expect responses based on facts. If you don't have FACTS you shouldn't give bad advise. We all are here because we love our channels. It would suck to put so much time into them to have it ruined by bad advice recieved from someone that has no experience on that particular topic.

Alright you sock puppet. My previous channel, before this one, was strictly Call of Duty content. I had monetized over 60 videos over 4 months and didn't receive a single strike. If you actually did your research, you would of seen that in 99.99% of game licenses it will state "The Software may allow you to create content, including but not limited to a gameplay map, a scenario, screenshot of a car design or a video of your game play. "

So how about you learn how to read and acknowledge the 40000 people telling you that you can monetize Call of Duty content.
