Mean comments!

After making sure that there isn't any constructive criticism hiding in the comment, I shrug and go about my day. The sooner you can get used to people being negative JUST to be negative, the better. There will only be more of it the more people you reach out to.
 
I usually leave it. If it's just one mean comment then it is normally just random people who have nothing better to do than to troll youtubers :)

if you mark it as spam, the commenter will still see the comment but no one else will see it and you will no longer see it. I've done it for years, no issues with YouTube about it.

You're welcome! If the comment is just a trolling or hateful remark....(Unless the comment prompts civil discussion) I'd rather not have that person influence others. Sometimes you get this spread of mob mentality on YouTube and as creators we have the control over our channel to deal with it as we see fit.
 
That's it? Try getting death threats in the mail and being told you look like sloth from the goonies regularly. You better grow a callous to survive YouTube nowadays.
 
I have only gotten one hateful comment so far, and I left it there. It's a comment after all, one negative among many positive ones. I replied to it in a neutral way.
 
Don't worry a couple of weeks ago I woke up to a comment that said F*****NG B****CH!!! obviously without the stars, i was shocked at how angry the comment was, i was also half asleep but I remember for a while being a little worried then got over it, but i tend to just delete all hate comments the minute i see them, and sometimes i report abuse too, they like it when they know they are upsetting you, so replying can sometimes be the worst thing you can do, all depends on the comment, if it's just constructive criticism it's not so bad, i tend to reply and keep it up
