Massive drop in views on kid channels

and look at this channel https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UC9jtQtWZMvYdCqmUE02OEoQ
it went from nothing to a lot of views.

They didn't go from "nothing" - They went from around 150k views per day to approx 600k views per day since the 13th July. Maybe you are new to Youtube but that sort of growth is what happens when a channel blows up. This isn't something new. Look at the stats of any big channel in any niche. There will be a moment in time where their traffic doubled 2 or 3 times in the space of a few weeks.

YouTube is a zero sum game ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-sum_game ) When one channel gets a boost in traffic, other channels get a decrease in traffic. That's because there is only a finite amount of time viewers can physically watch vids for in a day and also because there are only a finite number of slots in the suggested video sidebar etc.

no this is a bug. channel went from nothing to almost 1 mil for no reason. and tons of other channels got the traffic because small channels lost it All this happened on July, 11 so they scanned all channels and reduced traffic with certain tags I bet
Here is another one supersimplesongs spanish from 800k to 2.5 mil per day same july, 11 https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCyY3Wd5x85o8AKXjYSoxFAQ
mother goose https://socialblade.com/youtube/user/mothergooseclub from 1.5 to now 3 also july,11

appmink lost all the traffic also july, 11 from 200k to just 40k https://socialblade.com/youtube/user/appmink

It's not just a small channel issue. Whatever the issue is hit a large sample of channels of all sizes across the entire vertical. Certainly as Crown says it is more than possible for individual channels to blow up, but it is simple to scan for dozens upon dozens of examples of channels blowing up at the exact time the other channels got hurt. This is almost certainly for the reason that Crown suggests - zero sum game.

On the positive side, we are seeing slightly improved views this morning, so I'm optimistic that things will work out and return to some sort of equilibrium state.

Basically they told me that the algorithm always changes and sometimes they make big changes and later correct them. No exact answer if they will change it back or not. Plus partner mangers cannot change it, they can only report a problem. I noticed a lot of people were saying that now the algorithm recommends one old video with Click through rate above 15% (especialy with thumbnails that have a lof of red color present) I wonder if they got even more bias towards higher CTR

Very interesting. Did you manage to speak to someone on the phone? Sounds like you got more info than I could get out of them via chat!

So far we think these are two main requirements above 15% CTR and smooth drop in audience retention with this new change.

UPDATE: maybe not some videos had the same and no views. I think it is a crazy bug or traffic redistribution.

They also mentioned about regional competition. I think videos now compete within each country too beside the world to get views.
