Lighting and camara

I just started youtube and haven´t really uploaded anything yet, simply because i can´t make the lighting look good. It´s just really grainy and washed out. My skin basically blends in with my white walls. I use a filming camera from Sony. I know it´s not the best, but i was just wondering if i can do anything about the lighting?

Create contrast between you and your background. You may be lighting yourself too much, and the background not enough. If you can supply an example we can give you better advice.
