Is it important to post immediately w/ a new channel?

So, I'm considering starting a new/side channel for a number of reasons, and because I'm not quite ready to post on it just yet anyway, I figured I could just create the channel rn and then wait the 30 days until I'll be able to give it a unique channel name, that way I'll be able to easily refer to it when I do start posting there. But I was wondering: will creating a new channel and not being active for a month on it damage that channel's SEO?

I was wondering if there's any data on how important it is (if at all) to have content up IMMEDIATELY after creating a channel, or if a month or two delay is no big deal if consistent, timely updates come soon after. Thanks!

Great question! From what I've seen, it doesn't really matter if you wait a bit before posting your first video. YouTube's algorithm focuses on consistency and engagement once you start uploading, not on channel age.

Good luck with your new channel!

Making the channel now and leaving it inactive for a few weeks won’t really hurt anything. Youtube doesn’t give empty channels any kind of boost or penalty since there’s no content to judge in the first place. The algorithm only starts paying attention once you actually upload videos and people begin watching, clicking and engaging. So whether you start posting immediately or after a month doesn’t make much difference. What ends up mattering is how consistent and solid your uploads are once you do begin, not the gap between creating the channel and your first video.
