Is getting big on youtube still possible?

KSI stated '' becoming big on YouTube is probably impossible'', but if you think about it their are thousands of people on YouTube creating content and any video could go viral unexpected. I personally think that if you work at something you can achieve and in this day an age anything is possible, but luck can be a BIG factor. Just keep at it and you never know. It might happen in a week... a year ... or never but you will never know unless you try. So dream big or you will limit your self.

The going viral part def can't be understated as important, look at what happened recently with Banecat:)
 
I find this attitude in "Don't do it for fame" really strange.

Maybe it's because I'm a musician first and a Youtuber second that I really don't see a problem with wanting to be super internet famous, and really successful.

Wanting those things doesn't mean you're in something for the wrong reasons - it means that you're driven to succeed. It will take hard work and quality content - with a regular output - if you're ticking those boxes you'll gradually reel people in.
 
I think, if you forget about the money (Granted, if you can make some while doing what you love, GREAT) and just focus on doing and creating great stuff and meet people (Like on this forum) and you're constant and consistent etc etc. You can get pretty big, it all depends on you ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1415641020,1415640905][/DOUBLEPOST]

As long as you enjoy what you do, and you still get people watching - that's all that matters. The money should never be the reason for you making videos. When I started in 2010 on my old channel, Partnership was a dream! It ws a goal! It was something everyone wanted - but now since YouTube ruined it all by making it possible for EVERYONE to monetize and have Partner features - the excitement just isn't there any more. There are too many people just seeking the money, and not enough people focusing on doing something as a hobby. Something they love. Something they enjoy etc...

I've started YouTube up again purely because I love video editing, and I love making gameplay videos and commentaries and other random videos too. I think it's really important that people don;t forget - It's a hobby - not a job!

It's pretty easy to get a large amount of views and subscribers easily on 2014 youtube. Just make a prank or social experiment channel.

There's a gripload of examples of channels who managed to gain over 10,000 subs and even 100,000 subs in one year.

Now for vloggers. Its harder, but it takes a lot of work promoting and consistency to gain a large audience. But it can happen.
 
The way YouTube's algorithms have changed in the last 2 years makes it really hard for small channels to get their content out there. YouTube is a site that gets its money off of views and Ads. The more views on videos and the more Ads played, the more money they get. So of course they're going to push out the already big YouTuber's videos out because they're already getting a ton of views. Small YouTubers don't nearly enough views for YouTube to say, let's push these people's videos out. It's sad, but unfortunately the truth. And that's why so many people make the mistake of going to popular channels and spamming their content. Sure it will possibly get you views but you will most likely get a ton of hate as well. And you don't want to build a channel off of "hate views". That's why you have to love what you're doing and if it's meant to be, then it will happen. :)
 
I think it is definitely still possible but it is so much harder then it was back then. There are so many other people doing it and you have to stand out. I think consistency is the key. If you continue producing good content then the fans will come. I would love to be big on youtube, i think we all would but tbh i am happy atm and im over the moon when i gain just 1 subscriber :).
