Is getting big on youtube still possible?

Well I think it is definitely possible. Just like new tv series get so popular because we are always looking for something new. Youtubers change and the audience's needs change too. In fact I bet in two years someone else will say that about 2014.

I appreciate your question, I think most of us have thought of this at some point. :D

I think it is possible to do so. However for personally having a YT channel is about sharing content which I am passionate about not getting frame from it. I do think it is possible to get big on YT with the right amount of patience and quality of video, but honestly I am not bothered of getting frame I do Youtube for fun and enjoyment. I may have said this in the past on my old channel "do it to entertain not for the frame" :)

It's been said before me, but I really believe that as long as you're not doing it for the money or the fame, it definitely is. Trust me, I'd love to able to live off YouTube, but I honestly don't want to picture myself doing so because I don't want to get my hopes up. I don't even know if I make my videos good enough at this point in time. I'm still playing around with different formats and I'm just starting to get comfortable with my methods.

Morale of the story is that as long as you don't think about the fame that it can lead to, it's definitely possible :)

Anything is possible, but we’re practically talking about winning the lottery type odds here.

Some factors you have control of: hard work, well-crafted content, production quality. Others not as much: physical attractiveness, age, a naturally charismatic personality, etc. To get big, at least most of these need to line up.

I’d be thrilled with a modest following and enough backers on Patreon to take music beyond being a hobby.

Well I agree for me, Youtube is purely for fun, but for me a lot of the fun is the views, for me personally my videos get maybe 300-400 views a day, and some videos do better than others, so seeing a video that got alot of likes and comments makes it feel fun, as I produced something that people enjoyed watching, and for me half the fun is making videos, the other half is reading the comments and seeing what people say on social media, so naturally I enjoy having a more popular video more.

Edit: I said "for me" way too many times in that post xD

The market seems veeerrrry flooded now, so the chances of actually making it "big" seem quite rare.
You also have to assume alot of these bigger YouTubers know and promote one another, so there is kind of a glass ceiling in that respect. Me, I just want to become a bigger part of the community one day and actually have that feeling of accomplishment for myself:)

I think that time is over. Its a one in a million chance you will get "famous" on youtube. That's why I do it for fun. Makes it easier and I don't get as much stress as other youtubers may :)
But then again, this may mean I won't get anywhere if people just like my skit content, I need to find a way to make it accessible too. And as much as I have done some work on it, I don't think I or anyone will become "successful" unless we either get a viral sensation, one of the big youtubers gives us attention, or you have some other sort of miracle.

But that's just my opinion. :) If you think you can do it, go for it :)

I have wondered about this question for a very long time. The other day the YouTube KSI had a massive rant about this on snapchat and it had a lot of meaning to it. KSI stated '' becoming big on YouTube is probably impossible'', but if you think about it their are thousands of people on YouTube creating content and any video could go viral unexpected. I personally think that if you work at something you can achieve and in this day an age anything is possible, but luck can be a BIG factor. Just keep at it and you never know. It might happen in a week... a year ... or never but you will never know unless you try. So dream big or you will limit your self.
