I Want To Criticize You

Just want to check - is the video in your signature the one you'd like me to review? Otherwise, just let me know which video :)
So here's the video I'd like reviewed. Obviously I know you're not a gamer, but maybe comment more on the audio and my commentary rather than the contents of the gameplay. Though if you see a quality issue, feel free to speak on that aspect of the video. Anything else you want to comment on go ahead :)

Hi Kevin ;) I wouldn't mind if you'd take a quick look at this video and tell me what you think ;)

Heya! So, standard disclaimer - I is not a gamer. So...please ignore!
  • I like the intro - but I'd probably retime it to go a bit faster (maybe 1.25 speed).
  • Okay, I liked the first intro - the second and third title card are a bit much (they also don't really describe what's going on).
  • The music from your intro makes me feel like this is going to be a fairly laid-back, chill tutorial/LP/etc. The music under the actual footage contrasts with this in a weird way. I'd probably change the intro to something more intense if this is typical of your style.
  • The music transitions are a little uncomfortable. Consider using a cross-fade?
  • I'll be honest, I wasn't really sure what I was watching until the credits at the end - I gather this is a very-zoomed out person recording you building the pixel art? My following critiques continue under that assumption.
  • Minecraft pixel art is cool - but the process of constructing it isn't always the most interesting. I feel like this would have been more exciting if there were some camera changes and we watched portions of the process. Especially parts where you were filling in the dark blue - the audience gets it; you can hyperspeed through that part.
  • It would have been great to do a fly-in to the creation once it was complete.
  • The yellow credits are awfully hard to read. Recommend avoiding yellow text - and make sure to put a stroke on it regardless.
  • It would have been nice if you introduced what you were doing vocally, so we were more prepared for what we were about to watch (I honestly wasn't sure whether this was a mod demo at first, or a demo of some world-creation tool, etc).
  • You prolly want a bigger subscribe button on your end screen. And just in case you have any homophobic subs...you probably don't want to force people to click on your crotch ;)
Anywhoo, hope this helps! Cheers![DOUBLEPOST=1365320857,1365320800][/DOUBLEPOST]
Some feedback ?

If you can give me some feedback that would be awesome :D <3

thank you very much

Regards

Nik

Can you please narrow your request down to a single video? I'm doing my best to offer in-depth critiques, and it's much much easier with shorter videos. You've given me about an hour of footage to go through! :-)[DOUBLEPOST=1365321897][/DOUBLEPOST]
Now that I finally got the 50 post purchase thingie I want you to critisize my video.

Heya! I like the thumb! It's engaging! *clicks play* NOW! To critique!
  • Intro - I like it; it's nice and fast, BUT the opening sound is a bit loud at a pretty high frequency. If someone happens to have their volume up a bit loud, this could be painful. I'd probably just adjust the EQ on those clips and remove some of the treble.
  • The cropping of your face in the intro still has some white - either trim out the white (I know it's a pain, but at least you can reuse this), OR leave a 5-10px white border AROUND your face, "scrapbook" style.
  • You start off by trying to summarize what the video will be about, which is good and important! But...the summary ends up basically being "I'm going to talk about technology". This is pretty ambiguous. You want people to know what they're getting into right off the bat - consider filming your first clip *after* you've recorded the rest, so you can summarize well?
  • The audio between your camera and whatever you're using to record the voice-over is drastically different - I honestly wasn't sure it was the same person. I'd probably record the voice-over using the camera mic, just to keep things consistent (the voice-over also peaks a little bit).
  • "Well okay, but, what's Moore's Law" - for people who know about chipsets, they get the association. But if people are unfamiliar, this seems like a weird transition. Perhaps couch it with "One example of exponential growth in technology was predicted by Moore's Law..."
  • Sidenote on Moore's Law - it's no longer accurate - we're quickly reaching a point where we *can't* double transistors-per-square-inch. This has been one of the reasons for the advent multi-core processors and threaded programming.
  • Some of your edits clip the beginnings and ends of your words. Tight edits are awesome, but make sure you don't lose your voice in the process (use j-cuts and l-cuts to ensure your voice doesn't get clipped).
  • You later refer to my point about Moore's Law - though you say "exponential growth" is slowing down. This isn't entirely accurate. Transistors-per-square-inch will, but computing performance may very well not.
  • The music fades in a bit soon - you don't want to be at a point where you're competing to be heard.
  • I recommend adding an end screen - or lower third - or something persistent. There's nothing more frustrating than going to click a button, and discovering it's no longer active.
  • You tend to use a few "filler phrases". Don't be afraid to take a bit more time when you're recording to record a few more takes - the cutting style is nice and tight, but it slows down in your delivery.
You have a great personality for the camera, and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff!
BTW - I made a quick tutorial on using J and L cuts to keep things trimmed but without clipping the audio. Hopefully it might help:

Looking forward to hear from you :D
Also I have some more videos, if you would be kind enough to view them and criticize them as well?

Heya! I'm just reviewing one video per request at the moment - trying to keep things fair for everyone.

  • The footage here is really pretty - though I'm not entirely sure what I'm watching without looking at the title. You definitely want to have some sort of introduction so people know what it is they should expect.
  • There's an audio hiccup around 1:40ish
  • You definitely want to have some sort of endscreen as well - encourage people who enjoyed the video to view more of your content. Having a consistent brand experience helps people know what your channel is all about :-)
Other than that, I don't really know that I can offer much critique - unfortunately, I'm not really a gamer, so I may not be the best to comment. It's very pretty and relaxing though :-)

Hey Kisikw, I've seen you around and know that you are good and honest when it comes to criticism so here is one of my video's to have a go on. Its indeed gaming related, but I want to be sure I'm ready for the next lets play i will start (or review).
