I’m Doing Everything “Right”… So Why Isn’t YouTube Pushing My Videos?

Hi everyone

I wanted to get some honest advice from people who’ve been at this longer than me.

I’ve been putting a lot of effort into my YouTube channel recently — really trying to do things properly rather than just throwing videos out there. I spend time coming up with catchy titles, designing thumbnail artwork, writing detailed descriptions, and making sure there’s a good variety of content so it doesn’t all feel repetitive.

Despite all that… I’m barely seeing any traction. Views are low, impressions don’t seem to move much, and it feels like YouTube just isn’t pushing my videos out to people at all. That’s probably the most frustrating part — wondering whether it’s something I’m doing wrong, or whether the algorithm just hasn’t decided to give the channel a chance yet.

I’m not expecting instant success or anything like that, but it’s hard not to feel a bit deflated when you’ve clearly put time and care into something and it doesn’t seem to be reaching anyone.

For those of you who’ve been through this stage:

  • Did you experience the same thing early on?
  • Was there anything specific that helped your channel finally start getting noticed?
  • Titles, thumbnails, consistency, niche, length… anything you realised later you’d overlooked?

I’m sticking with it because I genuinely enjoy making the videos — but I’d love to understand what I could be improving or changing to give myself a better chance.

Appreciate any thoughts or experiences you’re willing to share

Hey - good work on your channel, can see plenty of effort has gone in and it all looks neat etc.

I can't pretend I'm a seasoned YouTuber, however I do know some people who are starting to see reasonable traction on their videos.

One thing I would say is look at the videos which do have higher views, and think why. You're doing live market research through doing all of these videos, so you can see that some don't seem to have landed, at least not at this point.

The good news is every new subscriber/new person that comes to your channel is another opportunity for someone to look back through your videos, so it is possible some of them may start to take off more a bit later.

But yeah, chase what gets traction - whilst staying true to what you want to do. I'm glad to hear that you love doing the videos, I'm planning to start a YouTube focused on music soon - discussion and dissection, humour, playing, etc.

Hey Jamie — really appreciate you taking the time to write that, thank you

That’s solid advice about looking at which videos get traction and reverse-engineering why they work. I’ve definitely started paying more attention to patterns in titles, thumbnails, games, pacing, and what people seem to click on versus what quietly sinks into the algorithm abyss

You’re spot-on about it being live market research though — every upload is basically an experiment at this stage, and I’m trying to treat it that way rather than getting too hung up on individual numbers. The long-tail effect is something I’m hoping for as well, especially as the back catalogue grows.

And yeah, enjoying the process is the main thing right now. If I wasn’t having fun recording and editing them, I’d probably have packed it in already — so that’s a good compass to follow alongside the stats.

Your music channel idea sounds great by the way — discussion + humour + playing is a strong combo. When you get it going, drop me a link, I’d genuinely like to check it out.

Thanks again for the encouragement — much appreciated
