How useful are TY shoutouts?

I've never gotten a shout-out from a bigger YouTuber so I don't know, I would think it might increase awareness of your channel and get you at least a few initial views. But I've always thought that one's time is best served making watchable content, rather than trying to get shout-outs.
 
If your content isn't likable it won't do squat. I have had shout-outs by bigger YouTubers in the past and while I jumped 100-200 subscribers in a matter of days it didn't result in huge increases.
 
They are good only if two conditions are met:
Your channels at least partially overlap as content.
Your content is above average (as entertainment quality).

If these two conditions are not met - shoutouts are completely useless even if a millions subscribers channels do them!
 
Hello there!

Recently, I received 2 shoutouts, which I did not intend. I did not chase after those Youtubers and spam each of their videos with love comments and wait for like months to get a shoutout because in my opinion, that would be the biggest waste of time.

When I got them, I was quite happy. However, I soon lost my happiness as I noticed that nearly every single subscriber out of the 10 or 20 I got from the shoutout are inactive. I am not a person who lies to himself by using the sub count, giving himself fame that is not his or living a dream.

This gets me to my question. What do you think about shoutouts? Does it depend on the rules of the shoutouter? Or are all shoutouts just straight up worthless? Advantages and disadvantages of it. You can talk about anything you would like about shoutouts down bellow, and I am sure that each one of us will leave with at least one thing new.
 
I think shoutouts are great if they are deserved.

A lot of channels just give shoutouts to people who say "HEY MAN LOVE YOUR STUFF SO GREAT" and when they get the shoutout they never return.
Not to mention the people getting a shoutout usually has no real content. Maybe some Call of Duty but that's it.

I dunno, it feels less deserved I guess.

I personally, experienced that. My first shoutout was for being a good Youtuber, not because I chased the shoutouter sending him love flowers and hearts. When I got that shoutout, I stayed happy because I felt that my content is actually good and some people appreciate it. My second shoutout... well let's not talk about that.

I've gotten one shoutout as well by someone from this site actually.

Lol you were kissing the youtubers a** or what? It's alright if you were, it's hard to get noticed these days.
 
I stopped caring about shoutouts either they are just giving you a shoutout for the sake of making a video regardless of quality or actual interest or they want you to bolster their channel by forcing you to sub, be active, comment, etc and at the end of the day you don't get the shoutout and repeat the cycle all over again. If someone gives you a genuine shout because they like what you do then its awesome but I wouldn't bother seeking them out.
