How do you keep yourself from giving up?

I feel the same way quite often. I've been making videos regularly for about a year and a half now and still haven't broken the 100 subscriber mark. It can be pretty discouraging when your favourite part is the interaction and talking to people, and no one interacts at all. But at the end of the day, I try to tell myself that I make the videos because it's something I enjoy and they make me laugh. And as someone who used to be incredibly shy, putting myself out there is a big thing for me. So, keep in there and enjoy what it is you do!
YES! I'll just focus on that. I enjoy doing what I do, and that is what makes me happy at the end of the day :D[DOUBLEPOST=1430694260,1430694225][/DOUBLEPOST]
I guess just move on? Don't stop, make it rock! :)
I will!! ;) Thanks!![DOUBLEPOST=1430694429][/DOUBLEPOST]
I'm sure channels bigger and smaller than you feel this same way at times. You panicked a little when you jokingly said maybe you make bad videos, and then said please don't watch. Here's my 2 cents and take it for what it is. This forum seems really supportive. Maybe drop some of your best videos or the videos that you like the best in the review forums, and get some constructive feedback on improvements. I am not a makeup tutorial guy, so I don't know how these channels work, but I am sure there are other members on this forum who are fans of the style or who produce similar content. It helps to take a step back and have someone else look at your work, but I know how scary that can be.

But you've got some great advice here. Post questions in your videos or comments feed when you upload. Put a direct question in your call to action at the end. Make the call to action longer. Maybe something like .... "Leave a comment on what style I should do next." Leave the call to action up for a little longer than you currently do. Let people take it in. Subscribers sometimes need clear focused directions on what you want them to do.

Also like other people already suggested, try looking toward pop trends like star wars characters.... or the avengers movie just came out, what about a Black Widow and/or Scarlet Witch tutorial?
Thank you! yes, I'm gonna do more trendy characters!! :D[DOUBLEPOST=1430694577][/DOUBLEPOST]
First off the only reason I post videos is because I have a passion for my channel no matter what anybody thinks. If it does well great. If it bombs oh well I am still doing it because I enjoy it. Life is too short to force yourself to do things you do not have a passion for and usually if you do things you have a passion for they work out if they are meant to be the way you need them to in most cases. On the other hand I get a lot of trolls/threats/hatemail etc and that can get a little unnerving at times but I do not let it get to me.

On a side note if I really feel that down and out the best solution to refill motivation for yourself is to watch your favorite youtubers for more inspiration, or watch other youtubers with a large community around them with very low quality content to reassure you that anybody has a chance out there to make it. My last resort is to watch the Rocky series or at least the montages. Doesn't Rocky pretty much motivate anyone on the planet when needed?
hahaa yes I guess Rocky does motivates a lot... I haven't watched that film in ages![DOUBLEPOST=1430694756][/DOUBLEPOST]
i can totally understand where you are coming from..i mean since 2013 we've been just sitting at 340 subs not growing at all..and seeing that does kinda discourage you. but then i remember why i started making videos.. its because film making is something i love to do. if others decide to join us on the journey then that is awesome and makes us work harder. if not then thats ok we'll take our time and keep doing what we love to do!
That is what it's all about... I need a little reminder sometimes :)

I run currently 4 own channels and help out a friend with a 5th one.

None of the channels are connected, so they are stand alone from each other. Though 2 of my and my friends have cars as topic.

My channels currently are like below (all data based on last 30 days)

Channel 1 - 13k subs & 15 Million views - growth avg. 24 subs/day (every 3-4 days 1 new video)
Channel 2 - 2.5k subs & - 713k views - growth avg. 12 subs/day (3-4 video per month)
Channel 3 - 1k subs & - 754k views - growth avg. 3 subs/day (1-3 new videos per month)
Channel 4 - 828 subs & - 526k views - growth avg. 1 subs/day (haven't done anyting in months)
Channel 5 - 6k subs & - 1 Million views - growth avg. 169 subs/day (4 new videos per week)

My channels grow slow but steady, I just keep uploading new content and try to answer all comments. The oldest channel is 9 years old the youngest ist around 2 years old.

My friends channel grew over 5000 new subs in the last 30 days, we had a good idea and the conecpt works well. He does the talking in front of the camera, I shot and edit the material. The current growth projection say that we should hit 10k end of May and maybe if all works out 50k by end of the year.

Now, back to your "problem", I recommend having not just one channel, have 2-3 with different topics and when one just doesn't work the way you want, focus on the other one for some time.

I sometimes have no power to concentrate on one so I leave it and work on the other one.

This way you don't get tired of your channel and the variety gives you new motivation!
Hope that helps.

My channels are about thing I love, meaning there's no way I will think about giving up. What's more I realized that making YT videos about what I learn helps me rembering and by that improves my preparation for final exams. I don't think I will ever waste such opportunity~

Tbh I quit YouTube for a year now because, not having enough time and the lack of motivation and ... the lack of ppl that received my videos ... it kinda got me down a bit
but now I kinda want to give it another shot ... and yeah listening to my favorite music and playing games and watching game plays helps lol[DOUBLEPOST=1430854636,1430854616][/DOUBLEPOST][DOUBLEPOST=1430854838][/DOUBLEPOST]

dang dude you really are occupied ... I need some help not really with my channel but understanding some things ... u think you can lend me a hand ?

Can I make a suggestion? I saw one video where you spoke to the viewers but the others are mostly just music and a demonstration of makeup. Have you considered talking through a tutorial (or talking through more tutorials, if you've already tried that in the past)? I have a few channels and in my experience people generally like when you speak to them. It encourages interactivity and makes the viewer feel more a part of the content..of the experience. It makes a viewer less likely to skip around as well. I have an awful attention span and I skipped around your videos (the ones I watched). I honestly think I'm less likely to skip around or even abandon the video if someone is carrying on a conversation or even just giving a step by step. When you talk to people it makes them feel as if they have a Youtube buddy. If you've already done talking tutorials and I just didn't see them then I apologize...I just skimmed your more popular videos.

I have a gaming channel (only 150 subs but I started it fairly recently) and I had mostly gameplays (no talking) and then I made a commentary and the response from the community was 'make more commentaries'. Many of the really popular makeup people I see also talk a lot during their tutorials. Some get by without talking but I think that is one way to get people to subscribe and grow your channel.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Good luck!

If I did not get out of YouTube what I wanted to get out of it I would have quit long ago. By what you wrote it seems you need to take a step back and relax a little. Forget about YouTube for a month and then come back to it. Or not, and find another hobby!

I am currently at 1.1K subscribers and 123K views after about the same time on YouTube. Hardly the success-story in the great scheme of things. But I am loving it. So many people stare themselves blind on numbers that they forget why you should be doing it in the first place. Personal happiness. I take my fair share of breaks from YouTube at times.
