How can a video with great feedback in comments have poor audience retention?

I Love YTtalk
I don't get how this is possible. I have a few videos where people have commented telling me they enjoyed the whole video. this about 100 or so people that have commented this. The videos which they enjoyed have an audience retention rate below 20 percent. I don't understand how this is possible. I've also gotten people that haven't commented directly on youtube telling me on twitter etc they have enjoyed these videos all the way through.

One of these videos has over 10,000 views yet somehow is below 20 percent audience retention.

the relative audience retention is higher than the average retention.

I think part of it depends on the video length rather than just the retention percentage, but I also really like the retention percentage because I don't think it lies. A lot of people can easily say a video is great, or that they liked a video, but the audience retention number tells the real story of what they think...It's kind of a harsh thing to look at sometimes, but it's there to be helpful. I like to use the graph to see what turns people off from the video, and I aim to cut out the dialog that seems to drive people away for future videos. ^_^

Can you identify a specific point where views drop the most in your audience retention graph?

I get at least one comment per video, that they comment a generic comment, after only seen 10 sec of the video, tops!
Only to promote themselves, which is a big shame, that they don´t realise it doesn´t help them much at all!

It seems like the people commenting they watched the whole video are lying, They are only watching some parts of the video that's why the audience retention is low.

That's why you don't promote to other creators. They'll give you positive feedback, so you go to their videos and do the same for them.

where did I say I was promoting to other creators?[DOUBLEPOST=1492355394,1492355271][/DOUBLEPOST]
Sounds like you're in a s4s loop. Everyone gives amazing comments and watches 10-20%

Once you get real viewers (those without channels) then you'll get realitic retention and comments not filled with adulation.

what is relative audience retention? That's always higher

If the comments you get are overall about the quality of your video, they come mostly from video creators. And most video creators will only check your videos, if you post in forums where they hang around.

oh my god this drives me mad, I had someone the other day who I actually thought was a youtube friend comment Great video! on my most recent one, which is 15 minutes long (really long I know) and they commented when it had only been up about 5 minutes, so they clearly didn't watch it, I get it a lot anyway but kinda infuriating when its someone you know a bit more personally. I understand that video was particularly long but I had someone comment something like that on a video that was a lot shorter 30 seconds after I uploaded it, I don't know sometimes people are odd and only care about exposure for themselves, and forget about the people who get them there in the first place
