Help from those that run kid-friendly channels pls?

It's cute! Just hope the silhouette of the Barrel of Monkeys isn't a registered trademark!
Thanks :) I never considered the silhouette being trademarked - I wonder if/how I can find out? I purposely didn't use an image of the monkey for that reason :p

Maybe it won't matter that much seeing as I won't be monetizing? Hmmm confusing...

I think you're safe. Toys are patented, and names and logos are trademarked, so I'm thinking a silhouette of a toy is safe.

Virtually everything is trademarked/patented. The question is - would a company go after somebody who is making nice, cute videos and actually promoting their product! :)

The banner is nice - I like it!
Also monetizing sometimes helps promoting your videos and channel. You may consider it in the future.

Haha yeah it's not like we're planning to take over their company or anything lol :D Tkanks for your comments!
That is an interesting fact about monetizing though, but on the other hand I wouldn't like to turn off potential viewers with ads either.

How do you guys go about promoting your stuff? I mean, I know how with my gaming videos but this is targeting a different audience.

I almost do not promote our movies. I have a favorite Japan related Google+ community but I usually post there only if the movie is Japan culture related. I also created a Facebook fen page but it is pretty inactive now.

I think the best way to promote is to make short, cute and neat movies on popular toys, candies or in general kids stuff and than YouTube will take care of the rest. Just try to craft the movie in such way so it keeps the interest of the viewers till the end (however cute are the kids it is not enough - you need something like a plot, change in the perspective (angle of the camera) and so on and so on - just many small cute pieces connected in one - not just one or two big and boring) . May be once the channel is bigger collaborations with other kids channels is good option (we have our first collaboration with much bigger than our channel next week - not a kids channel though). Of course you can share with some friends and relatives but this will have some effect only when the channel is very young/small.

Thank you very much for the advice! I was planning to do some toy reviews and do some craft videos that other kids could follow and do at home, as well as some stuff with books etc. I kinda find it hard to seperate in my mind what would be a home video and what would be good viewing for other kids :/

We usually make the boredom test. When the movie is almost ready I give it to my wife to watch it. Her only task is to click (make a mark) on the time track any time she feels bored. After that I just cut off all the marked sections.
Our audience lately is more mature but I think the test should work for kids targeted movies also.

Is there any way you can leverage your gaming audience to get a start? A few linked annotations shouldn't turn off many viewers and it would raise awareness. Some kids who watch gaming videos might be quite young or have siblings who would be interested.

Another tactic is to set a small budget for an Adwords promotion. It can't hurt.
