Help from those that run kid-friendly channels pls?

ToxicSludge

I Love YTtalk
I have a 2yr old and a 6yr old (both girls) and I think they'd enjoy having their own "channel" that we can work on together.

Could I get some ideas on what we could do from those that have already done it? We don't have a lot of excess money, so buying toys etc for reviews wouldn't work for us. Right now with my mind blank, that's pretty much the only think I could think of that other kids would probably watch :/

Check KittiesMama channel - not just the make-up tutorials but the rest of the movies also. Also it depends on the skills of the kids. Are they good in something particular? They can review toys they already have - there is no need to buy new one. You can combine them with family trips and events.

I think above posters have the right idea. Sometimes just everyday life is entertaining to film. Look at Batdad. That was just a dad being a dad and was one of the most hilariously funny things I've ever seen.

If you're looking for something more scripted then it would be cool to have a channel dedicated to flash game websites for kids and their reviews of it. I see my niece on these sites all the time, and no purchase is needed. How cute would it be to have a facecam while they play some flash barbie game?

Have fun.

I won't give you any specific ideas--I keep the best ones for myself, thank you very much--but I'll give you some advice. Kids shows don't require much money-wise to be entertained, they just like watching other kids, and they like seeing objects or the world being interacted with in some way--it doesn't have to be expensive new toys, it can be crafts, rainbow looms, etc.

Don't worry about money--you really don't need much to get started. We started Kid Candy Reviews just 6 months ago with $5 of candy, a cell phone camera, an old computer, and a $50 editing program. Now we recoup those costs back many times over each day.

The key is using what you have as best you can, and keeping things fun and interesting for your own kids, and play to their strengths and personalities. The ideas for the shows don't matter as much as getting a good performance from your kids, and editing so people are entertained and can make an emotional connection to your kids personalities. When people find your kids likeable and interesting, you can make a show about just about anything. It's hard to see your own kids as anything but likeable and interesting, so it's hard to be objective, but make sure you play to their strengths.

Actually this advice could probably apply to just about any video, not just kids videos.
