Future in youtube monetization.

I would love youtube to do some new incentives like fan funding (which is still not out in the UK or 90% of the world yet for that matter) but do something similar to twitch.
I can sub to my favourite twitch creators, support them financially, and get access to sub only mode, or custom emoticons.

Why not do something like that for youtube? I want to support the channels I really like, some new tuber I like who earns very little from views, i could pay to support them for some small benefits. Maybe it changes your username with an icon so people know you are a supporter of this channel, or pushes your comments towards the top? channels could do paid sub only livestreams on youtube, or google hangouts.

this would be a better solution in my opinion. i want to feel like Im supporting my favourites, youtube red doesnt do this for me well since I watch a LOT of videos per month.

And the cpm rate will only keep decreasing. Because advertisers are not willing to pay much because they keep getting blocked by adblock programs ..
So the cpm rate keeps decreasing

Advertisers only get charged when either 30 seconds of their ad has been watch or it's clicked. That's it.
Adblock doesn't effect advertisers, only the content creators.

If a company bids $.05 for an ad to be displayed and sets their monthly budget at $500, YouTube will all but make sure that the ad is shown (for at least 30 seconds) at least 10k times. If it's blocked on one person, it will be shown to the next and so on.

Yeah your right buddy

The only way youtube red would be a succes if adblock dissapears but addblock will not go away ..
So youtube red will never be a succes why would they pay for no adds. If they can just easily download adblock for free.

If an ad is blocked by adblock, it doesn't affect the advertiser at all.

Many people don't believe that it is morally responsible to use an ad-blocker. Let me guess, you download copyrighted music and movies too because it's available...

i don't really concern myself that much with money. Would be an awesome perk, hell yeah who would turn down money, but I focus more on my content. Everything else will flow from that

I have not seen any significant drop from 2014 to 2015..

YouTube's been doing a ton of work in 2015 to rid the site of all the re-uploading/ copyright/ football/ spam channels (which made up multiple billion monthly views) so that will help CPMs go up in 2016.
As for "competition" between advertisers, Online video spend goes up hugely YoY not down..

Also, YouTube average CPM is around ~$7/1000, RPM is around $2.40/1000 so $1/ $0.2 is quite off :p

Agree with this. YouTube are removing ads and disabling monetization altogether from a lot of non advertiser friendly and spammy channels, which is a step in the right direction.[DOUBLEPOST=1452252968,1452252782][/DOUBLEPOST]
Bruh youtube red suckss aint no dumb a** gonna pay 10 bucks a month for no adds they just use addblock oh yeah google play music ..
who the hell cares about that s**t ... they need to figure something else out ... because you cannot bann addblock from youtube ... you cannot force peoples to watch your adds it does not work like that everybody hates adds just like how we hate commercials on tv.. google needs to figure that out how they are gonna figure it out for a new payment system in youtube because this advertisement trust me it will not last . I remember when i started youtube in 2014 my cpm was like 3 dollars for 1k views now its more like 50 cent for 1k views in 2017 it will get worst 2018 youtube might not pay you anymore . Only the big populair channels . unless they figure something else out .. Time will tell and you will see cpm drops every year

I will pay for YouTube Red when it launches elsewhere and in the UK. It's a fair price, supports creators, and you get a Google Play music subscription, which is pretty much Spotify premium. They're also going to launch original, premium content on it. It's a smart idea.

I am not whining who ever said i am whining i am just telling you the facts .
But if you think youtube red is the future of youtube then you live in your own world .
Because its not if i was whining i would say people stop using addblock bla bla .. i dont say that everybody hates add so let them use addblock i am fine with it..youtube is not my job its just little bit of extra income dont care about it that much .

Well, from the revenue I see in my dashboard, we've been earning a nice amount of money from YouTube Red! Obviously, it's the money we'd probably just make off of normal ads served to YouTube Red users in first place, but regardless: it just shows me that people are actually using that service. Just because your watch time is s**t and you aren't likely to profit from it doesn't mean it's bad.

I'm actually quite excited about it because it might be just the thing we need! This is just the beginning, they'll continue to do more stuff w/ YouTube Red so expect to see more people attracted to it down the road, and with add-ons like AdBlock that are now not even blocking half the ads unless you specifically set them to, there's even more reasons to pay a few bucks and browse ads-free.

Yahoo already blocked adblock users from their email service, they can only access it if they disable their adblocker.
There's probably a chance that other sites might start doing the same thing.
Quick test shows that this isn't correct

On matter of payment, I just expect more people to move to Patreon or use similar ways to earn some money. Which I'm fine with.

Hey guys, probably everybody knows here that earnings from youtube ads drop SIGNIFICANTLY every year, a lot of people double their views during the year and still earn the same money (or even less) that they earned year before.

Of course, that will continue, there are more and more monetized youtube channels every single day, number of creators (video reuploaders, bs channels etc) are rising more quickly than the number of advertisers who want their ads to be shown on youtube, the competition between advertisers lowers, prices for ads lowers, creators revenue lowers. Add the rise of popularity of adblock and mobile here.

It's pretty much clear where it is going and will continue to go.

So what I think will happned in ~3 years time on youtube.
1)The earnings from ads will drop A LOT. Now I see people use "1$\1000" as some kind of "standard",(though a lot of people earn less than that even now)
In 3 years time the "standard" will be more like 0.2-0.35/1000 (adblock+mobile+lower competition between advertisers)

2)the whole "system" will start "balancing" itself. Nowadays "1$\1000" dream attracts ALOT of new video creators and people who want to earn decent money. When the reality will be like "0.3/1000" fewer people will join, more people will stop creating new content, earnings will stop to drop that fast..

3)earnings will pretty much "stabilize" in the range of 0.2-0.4 for several years until the increasing popularity of adblocking stuff/mobile will lower it even more,

The main problem is - there are BY FAR more kids who want to upload minecraft/s****y BESTTOP10OF bs videos than there are serious advertisers who want to show their ads. And there is nothing actually we can do about that.

And what YOU think will happen to youtube monetization in ~3-5 year time?

Hello my Friend.
I agree with you.You have very good logic answers, to these questions.Just some thoughts i have on my mind.
I believe that there are many countries like mine that the people still dont know about youtube and all the ads go to television.Thats something that has start to change on the 2 last years.I think that will improve on the next 10 years about. So many new money will come to youtube(But maybe not to youtubers).

Another thing is that many people start youtube because they like it or they think that youtube is easy money.
I believe that is very dificult on these year and only hardworking people and people who have a very special talent can have enough money to have a salary from this.
Also. Before 5 or 7 years many channel grow easy because there were just some channels. Now if you go to start a channel is very rare for youtube to promote you so only with talent and hard work you can grow now.
I agree many people will stop to produce. The low poppularity channels because they cant grow and the mid level because they dont get enough money for the work that needed.(for a mid level channel with 5000 to 20000 subs and about 200 dollars every month need many hours every day. 7 days per week)

The idea i have on my mind is that youtube will change every day and more to a new global television where only talents and popular person and companies will have a channel.
But i think the money spent on youtube will increase for the next 10 years.
