First negative comment--should I reply?

Personally I wouldn't ever respond to any haters/negative comments as that fuels them to keep doing it. They want your reply, they want your attention. Giving it to them kind of means they win. For me... I say if you ignore it for long enough, it'll go away :) although on youtube they never really go away lol

I just go ahead and delete rude or ignorant comments. If someone does have the time the even show an ounce of respect for the time I took to either produce or unload a video, why should I allow them to voice their ignorance. Not to mention if I leave it up, someone else might be willing to speak up which enables more room for negativity. I produce tutorial videos, so there will always be someone picking apart something silly. I talk too much, talk to slow or fast, say a specific word too many times, just really dumb time wasting comments.

Hey everyone, I got my first negative comment on a video today. (I have received hate on comments on other videos before, but this is the first negative comment on one of MY videos.) This comment is not, however, a hate comment.

Two things before I give the deets: I enjoy all comments, positive or negative ... and ... I rather like the idea of replying to hate comments with a statement of agreement or some such thing to frustrate the hater.

My video is about me being sort of gross in terms of not showering enough and not cleaning my place when I should. I mentioned that I am far worse than two big YouTubers who very often claim to be unclean. (I said they are faking it or are amateurs.). The comment: "this is not something you admit to a camera although it may be true for you and me its just not cool to be recording about how filthy you are and saying that you are more filthy than someone else..."

I kinda want to reply, something like "Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. While I respect your point of view, this is my channel, and I shall use it as I see fit, just as the YouTubers I mentioned use their channels to discuss their uncleanliness. I do, of course, hope you will subscribe!"

Not sure, though. Thoughts, my friends. I do eagerly await your opinions!

I've always turned it around - some youngling thought they could just leave one word insults each reply, then I began to spin a story about losing their friendship and what we could've had together. Didn't hear from them again!

There was also another kid who felt the need to instruct me to do something with my mother but then I informed him I was probably older than his own and he never came back!

I don't believe in leaving them to have the last word - it becomes entertainment for me! ;)

Why is it usually males who like to have the last word for the pure point of entertainment lol
I thought some girls were bad at the whole "i always have the last word thing" including me but it seems males are worse XD

I personally find it more rewarding not replying since they are kind of just left there looking dumb, by replying you risk sounding immature & dumb like them so i'd rather not haha. Even if your own come back to their negative comment sounds good to you, it won't always sound good to everyone else :)

I can't resist - see, I'm doing it now! :p

Seeing ridiculous comments hanging 'without a friend' just annoys me, especially on my own channel. I know most are from kids, as older folk tend to have some ounce of self-respect (although I'm not 100% convinced, these days).

When you receive 'just kill yourself' it aches to be responded to - I can't help myself.

'My name is CynicalChinchilla and I'm a hate-comment replyer' ;)

Yeah i totally knew just from your first comment that you're that type of person lol
& you'd be surprised of how many of these haters/trolls are actually from mature aged adults with no lives.

I just laugh at negative comments, then delete them. Although i've yet to actually receive one on my channel, but when the time comes i'll just find it funny & feel sorry for the poor troll haha

Thanks everyone! As is often the case, my initial desire to say something has passed, and now I lost the interest. While I agree with CynicalChincilla that having the last word rocks, this particular comment doesn't rise to the level of demanding a last word.

Will this be the last word of this thread? We shall see....

Sadly no - I would've asked if she wanted to join me in de-crusting in the shower - oh well, good job I didn't post a reply to her (I stopped myself before clicking 'post'). :P
