Do you need to SEO your tags?

Just make sure your title is what the video is about, include good keywords... tags should really be keywords IMO. But use them as this. Dont put sexy and hot naked chick in your video unless you have one... get it? Make it real, but you only have so much space, this is what the optimizing is for... So test it out and use the relevant words that bring the most traffic.
 
I keep reading that SEO isn't as important as it used to be. Give YT a bunch of keywords and then over time it will make its own conclusions based on how well the video performs for those keywords.
 
SEO is important, but it will never be the driving force to grow a channel. If anything its more of a tool for YouTube and Google to decipher where your content belongs on YouTube.

It is important to be able to be categorized in the right location and eventually move your way up in rankings, but as a tool to generate views, new subs, and new comments, I doubt that it will be useful.

Just like SEO on a website, its just an organic way for people to find you. We still have to do our part as YouTube creators to create content that is very relatable and interesting to our target audience.
