Do They Really Like Your Content?

I'm always so happy to read a comment from someone new but when they add "pls check out my channel" at the end, it feels like a punch in the face! All the nice things they said may have been completely insincere!
Still, I give them the benefit of the doubt, respond nicely, check out their channel and leave a comment even if I don't want to sub. But it sucks.

sub4sub from what I understand damages your average view time. If you have a bunch of people showing up and pasting `awesome video` or `liked and subscribed, please check out my channel` and leaving quickly to do the same to the next video then it damages the ranking of your videos as it suggests that your videos were so awful that they weren't worth watching.

It does not just affect you in that way. It also makes you think that you are performing extremely well as your sub number is increasing. However, in reality, all you are getting are inactive subs who don't really watch your content.
Additionally, Youtube got wise to that, and they have programs to catch people who attempt to grow through sub4sub'ing as it is considered cheating by Youtube.

I can't STAND the comments that say "nice video! I subbed. Sub back?" It completely annoys the living crap out of me! Just to know that people waste there time to go onto other peoples channels and not literally care about the videos or channel. yes they might mean the comment "nice video" but who truly knows if they mean it or not when they say "i subbed, mine subbing back? with it.

I really do feel you. That is the same exact feeling I get. I see that one of the comments got auto flagged, and the only part I see would be "Entertaining video!" or "Awesome video!" and I would be shocked to how they would get flagged, but then I see the sentence of death, and I know very well why that happened.

I mean, it is up to you in the end, but it is not obligatory for you to do so. Either way, they are probably not interested in your channel, but even if they are. You respond to their comment nicely, and you are not obligated to check out their channel. That is like one of the simplest programs and codes anyone could use. Just put a code to search for the words "sub4sub" or "subbed, sub back please" and they put them as strings. They have a couple of them. If they find that someone is using that type of strings (strings are groups of letters in coding), in multiple channels, a multiple times. Then they know that this guy is attempting sub4sub. It could be inaccurate at times, but I guess this is what they use.

I agree with you 100%. It is just like a punch to the face considering they are only there to help there own channel. Like you said, you still could leave a nice comment on the reply back to them.

One way we know if someone has left a genuine comment is to hover over the commenter's thumbnail and see how many subscribers they have. Folks with no thumbnail picture or very few subscribers, and perhaps only a couple of videos tend to make genuine comments.

Established channels on the other hand should be leaving comments on your videos with something more substantial than "nice video!!" or similar . We get a lot of spammy comments these days since we grew.

When we comment on videos we always watch the video and say something specific about the video, something we liked, or if something was well done, creative or original.

I'm an ex-programmer, the challenge is that most sub4sub people don't write `sub4sub` these days. They'll write stuff, as you say, like `awesome video, please subscribe back`, `I subbed, check out my channel`, or `check out my videos` , `I like your video, please visit out channel` stuff like that, but that's more of a potential spam comment and not really a detection of someone doing a sub4sub.... The more phrases you detect the more chance you'd be catching innocent comments. These phrases could be said innocently by people who know each other outside of YouTube, or by fans or whatever.

I would detect a sub4sub when someone has subscribed to a channel, and then the subscribed to channel subscribes back within say 24hours... But that can happen for non sub4sub motivations too, so that's why I asked if you knew, because it would be hard to write some code that would detect it 100% accurately.

I haven't gotten any "sub4sub" comments in a long time, but I imagine that's partially because my own channel is just that unsuccessful in general.

Regarding the point of whether people truly like your videos, in my honest opinion, most people don't care. The way I identify someone who truly likes your video is someone who watches it all, shares it with their friends, possibly leaves a sincere comment, and preferably offers to financially support the uploader somehow. Unfortunately, we all know how rare those kinds of consumers are on the net.
