Do shoutouts really work?

I don't think it can hurt your channel, but I don't think it can really help it either way. Shout outs don't do much - they're simply a "look at this guy!" The people who do them most likely don't know anything about you, haven't even chatted with you to figure out who you are and are only doing it for their own satisfaction and possible sub from you. I've had one video that got those comments and went to check out his "Shoutout Sunday" video and the rules that he had implemented to be in it and I commented back being like "Sorry I just don't make the cut!" And he was like "no that's not the rules." which was really confusing because like??? Why would I need to follow some rules for a shoutout. I'd rather just actually talk with people and figure out a way to collaborate on something rather than generically someone say my name.

Shoutouts give you exposure. If your content is likeable that will result in subscribers. I have gotten my fair share, I have also promoted other channels myself. It is the only way to get massive exposure nowadays and a major key to YouTube stardom. Without a shoutout you will go unnoticed till you get that exposure boost. Either from a shoutout or a well known site.

One thing to remember is that you can't ever ask for a Shoutout. They are given to you when you are worthy in the eyes of the person giving you a shoutout. Asking for it will ensure your name ends up on the blacklist of that YouTuber. That goes hand in hand with blatant self promotion. And blatant self promotion is just not done (talking about those comments that say "Just started out, check my channel" or "cool vid, check my channel" for instance).

I agree with your statement shoutouts can give a youtuber who deserves a shoutout an audience and help their channel really take off. Unfortunately there is so many youtubers out there creating these shoutout series that are just getting people empty subscribers and a one time boost but not an actual audience that helps them grow their channel.

I think it can do wonders if it's a genuine shout out and 'collaboration' with someone. If they just quickly mention your name or something then I don't believe it would grant the other person much.

What is your opinion on shoutouts do they actually help smaller channels become know? Or is it as bad as sub 4 sub and can actually hurt the channel.

I personally haven't received a shout out,but I don't think that it really helps smaller channels. When i mean smaller channels I mean channels that are below 100 subs. These shoutouts are randomized at least that's what the shoutout person says. Even though the pattern seems that shoutouts have been going out to people more than 100 subs, but i digress.

Now if you received a shoutout than great, awesome, you definitely deserve the shoutout and i'm not going to take that achievement away from you.

If you haven't received one then just remember to keep putting out high quality content and don't get discouraged from not getting one and just because you get one doesn't mean you will get retain a fan base which is what you want. You want fans which are the people who will return and see your videos and interact with you. Not just subs or viewers.

I had two shoutout's untill now, one from the channel of my Network and one yesterday from a random tuber!
I do appriciate it allot and the Network shout gave me some exposure but still not allot because their channel is not viewed very well... everyone is basicly there to get an shoutout so they are not genuinly interested in eachothers content. And aldo yesterday's shoutout was super sweet, the low community base doens't really give an impulse.

So I like shoutout & the same go's for collabs but their not worth much if you do it with someone who doesn't have a big active subbase that could be interested in the shoutoutie content.

No they really don't, I've seen 3 channels get their channels taken down and flagged to oblivion because of people's feelings, they usually say "he didn't work hard for it" so they think that justifies their reason for false flagging channels.

Other than that I had a channel with 200k subs give me a shoutout, and there are a few problems that I had, not long term but short term but still annoyed me some-what.

The guy who gave me a shout out uploaded destiny videos and had a "fake persona, with a cringy over hyped voice", my voice is chill and people said that it was boring and that I should put more "energy behind it" lols.

The majority of them are inactive and still are till this day (don't know or aren't sure why they don't just unsubscribe.)

The rest that were active decided to unsubscribe, because I refused to become fake or scream like a retard that had taken 20 crack rocks and was being pulled away and sent into a rehab facility.

A lot of people told me to give thanks to the guy that gave me a shoutout, I would have but knowing the circumstances I decided not to. I lost 3k subs in the following month but gained around 7,000k, because my videos blew up, a lot of websites were featuring my videos, now the people who saw my videos being shared in other social or gaming websites (and subscribed to me), those are the ones that actually stayed and gave me good feedback

I think it depends.
Obviously the whole "im doing a random shoutout to a subscriber" doesn't do anything, but the whole reaction videos and collabs and "real shoutouts" are good.
Two non-specific examples.
"Checkout 'Generic Minecrafter 64820' because they liked a video of mine and are subscribed to me"
"Checkout 'YoutuberWithSimilarContentToMeInADifferentStyleButIsStillAwesome'. I found them while searching around the other day, and have been binge-watching. Their 'InterestingSeriesWithCoolVideos' are especially good, so watch them!"
I dont need to explain which one helps (its obviously the first one. The second one does nothing... obviously)

I believe shoutouts help if you are ready for them. Your channel has to cater to that person's audience to benefit from their shoutout. Also your content has to be comparable for them to stay
