Do shout-outs really help that much?

I've just been wondering for awhile. I saw a guy on a chatroulette video which the uploader has 1.5 million subs on the channel, and he gave a shout out to someone on the video who does chatroulette videos aswell, and well, it did not help him at all. i mean holy crap, i WISH i could get a shoutout from someone with 1.5 million subs. but what's the point if it doesn't work? meh well i'm just starting out on youtube and i think i can get a shoutout from a guy i know who has 30k subs, but would it even do anything? haha
 
YES.

The video in my sig was shout-outed (if that's a word), and my views went up by 400 in one night. I also gained about 18 subs xD
 
Short answer yes, long answer yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees. Shoutouts have the potential to boost your views or subscriber count substantially

The guy who was shouted out must have terrible content then. If your content is good, a shout out will do a WORLDDDDDDD Of good. ALWAYS. I mean, I get a shout out that gets me 1000 views? I gain about 50 subs from that. You'd have to have some p**s poor content to not benefit from a large shout out.
 
I think as long as you have good content it definitely works! I'm subbed to someone who constantly tweets about and mentions his friends / families channels, and they always get a good boost from it :)
 
I'm sure something would happen, even if the benefits were very small, they would still be there. If you get the chance to get a shout out from anybody, especially somebody with that many subs, it's probably a great thing! :)
