Creative Nation MCN: Payment & Communication Issues

Hi everyone,

I used to run a subnetwork under Creative Nation, and lately many of my former partners have reached out about payment issues with Creative Nation. I am curious if anyone else is experiencing these issues. For most of them, the last payment (from about a month ago) never came through.

As for myself; I should still be entitled to a small revenue share. Unfortunately, their dashboard tells me the last payment in April 2017 was "denied by PayPal with reason code 3015" (which would mean that my account had been locked). PayPal informed me that no payment attempt was made. After March, I have not been paid at all (and no earnings show up in the dashboard).

Additionally, I am still owed a fair sum of money from a transaction in May of 2016, as well as monthly revenues from their extra advertising sales since February 2016. About two months ago, they told me that first sum had finally been transferred. Until this day it has never come through. I also know that at least one partner is still owed advertising sales revenues from March 2016 onwards, as well as thousands of dollars in regular revenues.

I think this should serve as a warning to others. Creative Nation is not responding to any e-mails, letters or phone calls. Their forums have been down for a while as well.

I am curious if anyone else is experiencing any issues with them!

Hi Joost.

There have been lots of complaints about Creative Nation on here. It seems things started going really downhill in 2016.

Here are some recent threads about it:

I'm really not sure what is going on with this MCN. I am not involved with networks at all (either as a customer or as a business partner) so I can't comment on any details, but something definitely appears to have gone wrong with CN. Their owner is actually a member of these forums but he stopped posting here around the time people started complaining.

Here's what I know:

  • Somewhere around May/June 2016 they fired a lot of their staff members (including their subnetworks manager and payments manager). From that point onwards, getting a reply from them got a lot harder.
  • They moved offices a while ago, I'm guessing because they wanted to save on costs (I've visited their old office in the Digital Hub in Dublin about two years ago, it didn't look very cheap).
  • It seems that somewhere last year they decided to focus on their YouTube channel, Facts. This channel is still in operation and seems to have quite a big team behind it. One of the members of my subnetwork's team even took part in one of their videos last summer (at the time I still believed the issues we were having were going to be resolved).
  • If you send a debt collector after them, they'll completely ignore it.
  • E-mails you send them are being read, but not answered (I use e-mail tracking software).
  • Their website has been under construction for over a year.
  • They confirmed to me that they were going to be present at VidCon Europe in Amsterdam (where I'm based) earlier this year, but when trying to arrange a meeting to discuss the issues I was completely ignored again.
  • From the channels I've spoken, I can estimate the total amount that Creative Nation has never paid out exceeds $25,000. Considering all the other messages on these forums (as well as the many other channels who aren't on here), it is probably a lot higher.
I really don't have a clue what's going on. I used to have good contact with their owner, but right now it seems they have a policy of ignoring everyone.

Why don't you sue them? You know $25,000 is not just a penny. If you contact with some lawyers in Ireland, they would help you.

I have not been paid since last month, i have contacted youtube about the issue and I have unlinked my channels from CN.

Creative Nation hasn't been paying me for over 2 years now. After sending emails for 2 months, they finally sent me payment for a single month and I still have 1200$+ payment left from them. They don't reply to my emails, their website doesn't work, their forum is also out of order. Nothing is working. I sent in email for unlinking my channel, but I haven't got any replies from there side. What to do now? I'm completely stuck with not getting any payment, and not being able to get out. My contract was for 1 year, which has passed way earlier. I have spent 3 years with CN and haven't seen any of my $$$ except the one month they sent me and now, I'm also not able to unlink. Help Please!!! I'm desperate.

Hmm...reminds me of the contract I was stuck in with a company called Maker Studios. They were called something else but then they partnered with another company. Moral of the story was that nothing I tried could get me out of contract. First attempt they told me it had to be within 30 days before the 1 year mark. Next year they told me my enroll date was 2 weeks sooner then I was told prior so my cancellation notice was too late (again). Finally on year 3 I told them that I was going to take them to court (this being sent 60 days in advance to the new date they gave me) if they did not let me out of my contract on the date that was given.

Granted they never owed me money cause I wasn't making anything with them. At Home Businesses are much better for that anyways. But have you considered threatening to take them to court or say, "You'll be hearing from my attorney" whether you have one or not? Even if you're bluffing it does work sometimes. I'm sure someone in their terrible company will read that and take it seriously if they don't take care of you ASAP. :O!

I really hope you can get paid and get unlinked from them though.

Never going to get anything from them Joost, there's no words to describe Creative Nation now. Such a shame.

Youtube just introduced a new feature for channel owners to unlink from MCN without needing approval from MCN. However, the MCN access will only be removed 30 days after the process is initiated. I suggest that you click on the channel -> Status & Features -> Unlink to see if you can unlink from them 30 days from now. I did it 1 month ago & i'm now out of CN. BTW, can anyone recommend any Irish-based lawyer/firm who can advise on our issues with CN?
