Committed Schedules - YouTube Channels

Hey guys,

I have been thinking about this recently as I want to launch my own channel soon enough where I post videos but I am uncertain about being able to stick to a proper schedule. Is it worth making a new channel if you are unsure if you are going to be able to keep to a particular schedule, is it worth releasing videos just every so often and as and when you have something new to release? What are your thoughts on this? Do you need to be 100% committed to a schedule or even need one at all?

I have always held back because I am scared of people expecting a proper schedule and letting them down. What would you do in my situation?

Cheers :)

Make the channel you want, snatch up that name, and just get things in order. Make sure you build it up some before you even launch the channel, and take your time, no rush. As you do this, I'm sure you'll soon get plenty of ideas as to what you'd like to do. If not, try some free-hand writing, and put that to use. Write/type stuff off the top of your head, doesn't matter what, and just go with it. After you written things down, scan the page for key words, and phrases and see if you can get an idea of what you might want to do! :D

Keeping to at least once a week is good, if you feel you can upload more then by all means do so, but don't stress yourself by uploading too much and not being able to sustain decent quality. :)

My schedule is loose - new videos every week. I only have 6 videos up, but 3 were on a Tuesday, 1 Monday, 1 Friday, 1 Wednesday. It doesn't seem to make a difference for views or engagement.

I don't keep a schedule. I don't have many subs anyways, so a schedule would not really make sense. Some of my favorite channels do not have scheduled uploads and when I see them finally upload something I get excited. When I see Cyriak or Arnold Schwarzenneggar post a video I know I'm in for a treat most of the time.

I think for me having a schedule is important. Maybe for those with hundreds of thousands (or more) subscribers it's not such a big deal but I've noticed even though I haven't told people about my schedule, they know it and notice if I'm late. Even if they don't watch my video right away it's something about them being aware it's there.
If you're not sure then I would come up with a few ideas, film a few, edit and then you can post once a week on a schedule but you have a bit of a head start in case you don't have time one week.

I think a schedule is important as well. If you're not sure you can stick to a schedule, plan ahead - create several videos and then start releasing them on a schedule (use the scheduled upload from YouTube - it works wonders!).

Thank you everyone, you have all given me things to think about. I am thinking about just going ahead, maybe actually going ahead will help me get videos done and make time for them where I thought I didn't have the time :D

Keeping a schedule is one of the most important things you can do. It's also one of the best workarounds for videos not showing up in the subscriber feed. How many top channels on youtube keep a regular upload schedule? Take a look at the top channels on this forum. How many verified members keep a regular upload schedule vs those that don't. That should tell you everything you need to know.
