You know... if this is just about demonetizing videos rather than taking them down, then I don't really have a problem with it. To be honest, I wouldn't feel right about monetizing a video where I'm discussing the sadness or a tribute of say... when Harold Ramis died, or the Dark Knight Rises tragedy shooting.

philip defranco uploaded this today

really interesting that youtube seems to be putting its foot down and making it so people can't monetize youtube videos. what do you guys think? just enforcing their own guidelines or trying to stop freedom of speech?

I'm confused how his channel will be shut down? No where in the policy that I can see says anything about channels being shut down. Just that certain videos can't have advertising anymore.

Which leads me to this question. Can someone like Miley Cyrus or Robin Thicke have ads on their music videos when Miley is naked and robin is talking about sex etc showing nude girls?

as phil said its like a slow death if you do it for a living. it doesn't effect small youtubers as much as it might only be a few pennies. but if your doing it full time especially reporting serious news then at the very least it discourages you from making videos about certain valid topics, and at worst makes it so you can't talk about the news anymore.

i had this exact same talk with my girlfriend. surely 95% of music videos are no advertiser friendly now, your dead right

I have a lip sync video I made with permission. It's an original song by Dave Days called "you are pervert" he gave me permission to make money off it. Still earning money. The video is a joke so I'm waiting to see if YouTube catches my video and says mine is inappropriate.

I have a Gaming channel and out of the lists on the YouTube guide line thing the only one I do is swear from time to time but so do some of the characters in the game so how they plan to enforce this around Gaming I have no idea almost every Gaming channel I watch has swearing in them sometimes for different reasons like being scared on a Horror game but this seems really OTT.

I wonder if Michael Buckley who's known for making those entertainment news videos has gotten any emails about how he can't earn money anymore. I mean some of his stuff is harsh but it's all in good fun so he's not really being mean.

hey guys so the recent craze everyones talking about is youtube demonetising videos that contain strong language and mature content whats your thoughts.

personally i think its a good thing, ive never been a fan of bad language and i think most people use it to be funny when you can actually be funny without bad language, i havent had one de monetized anyway so wohoooo.

hope yall have a fantastic weekend folks stay awesome.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I'm glad they work this way. I don't think anybody should profit from controversy.

Everybody complains about censorship, but you're still free to make anything you want.

Maybe I'm just biased because I feel like success without **** jokes and curses is NOT hard to do.

I even made a video about my feelings on all this. And most importantly, they've always done this, they're just trying to help you realize it, nahmean?

I don't mind the demonetization of certain things like the ones who make profit from bad things happening in the world. About swearing, i have mix feelings on it. I understand that they want it to be more friendly but sometimes a swear word will come out. I don't swear a lot but there are times were I just swear on my videos sometimes from maybe a scare or I am frustrated with the game and I haven't had any video demonetize so far I haven't gotten an email or anything yet so yeah I guess they are just demonetizing if you're someone who rants, rage, etc in which you trash talk a lot .-.

I understand you. I never really cursed in my videos so I'm in the clear. Personally, I still think it sucks for people who swear a lot. I know it may annoy people, but it's another way to express yourself and that shouldn't be limited. You can still do it, but you won't be able to profit from it. Makes you wonder what a ton of big YouTubers who curse a lot in their videos will do.
